According to Iranian Human Rights Society, on the morning of Friday, March 17, 2023, at least six prisoners, including five men and one woman, hanged in Urmia Central Prison.
The charge of the 5 executed male prisoners was drugs and the charge of the female prisoner is unknown.
According to this report, the names of the executed prisoners are as follows:
- Ashir (Forohar) Abbas Nejad from Tergor
- Jahanbakhsh Radloui from Somai region
- Hassan Omari
- Yasin Rashidi
- Mohammad Ayoubian from Tergor village
Also, a female prisoner named Salim (Nasrin) Niazi from the women’s ward of Urmia Central Prison executed. There is no information about Salim Niazi’s accusation.
10 political prisoners started hunger strike as a sign of protest.
According to a source, in the last three days, 13 drug-related prisoners executed in Urmia Central Prison.
According to the same source, after 7 prisoners, including Mohi’edin Ebrahimi, transferred to solitary cell to execute the death sentence, 10 political prisoners of Urmia Central Prison went on a hunger strike as a sign of protest.
These 10 prisoners were also transferred to solitary cells for punishment.
It should be noted that on the morning of March 15, 2023, the political prisoner Mohi’edin Ebrahimi, a political prisoner imprisoned in Urmia Central Prison, along with a number of other prisoners, was transferred to solitary confinement for the execution of the death sentence.
Muhyaddin Ebrahimi is 43 years old and has 5 children.
Mohi’edin Ebrahimi had been transferred to solitary confinement several times before to execute the death sentence.
In the evening of Thursday, March 16, 2023, the families of prisoners sentenced to death gathered in front of the door of Urmia Central Prison. And they demanded that their loved ones not be executed.
