“Karaj and Hamedan, two prisoners executed.”

Two prisoners executed in Karaj and Hamedan. Currently,104 countries have abolished the death penalty through holding referendums.

According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, during October 10th and 11th, 2023, two prisoners executed in the cities of Karaj, and Hamedan.

On Wednesday morning, October 11th, 2023, a prisoner named Hossein Bahremand executed in Hamedan Central Prison. This prisoner had been arrested three years ago on charges related to drugs and was sentenced to death. Hossein Bahremand was from the city of Rabt, a suburb of Sardasht.

Execution in Ghezeal Hesar Prison in Karaj

Early morning on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the execution sentence of a prisoner in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj carried out. The identity of the prisoner, known only by the name Shahab on the Rokna website, remains unknown. “He was a fugitive since 2011 after the murder of his friend in a personal conflict.” and was arrested in 2018.

Abolishing the death penalty in 104 countries

Currently, 104 countries have abolished the death penalty through referendums.
Also 50 countries have abolished methods leading to death penalty, and also 6 countries will only have the death penalty during times of war.

Currently, only 34 countries use the inhumane punishment of execution. Iran, under the rule of fundamentalist leaders, ranks second in terms of numbers and first in terms of executions per capita.

Many executions not reported due to media censorship. This censorship is particularly evident in the execution of women. At least 22 individuals executed in Iranian prisons since the beginning of September.

The high number of executions of prisoners in Iran has received negative reactions globally. Mr. Javaid Rahman condemned the deprivation of citizens’ right to access a lawyer in his periodic report.

Amnesty International also condemned the increase in the number of executions in Iran and called for global action to stop such sentences.
