“Revealing or announcing the names of the executed individuals is a scene of confrontation between the people and the oppressive ruling government.”
According to the Human Rights Center of Iran, early in the morning on Wednesday, January 9, 2023. Two prisoners executed in GhezelHesar prison. The death sentence for these two prisoners issued on charges of drug-related offenses.
The executed prisoners were Mohammad Ali Mirzaee from Nurabad, Lorestan, and also Mahmoud Mirzaee from Miyaneh. Mahmoud Mirzaee had been in prison for the past 27 years. These two prisoners transferred to solitary cells for execution since Junuary 2, 2024.
This news has not been announced by official media yet.
In May 2023, Amnesty International expressed concern about the increasing trend of issuing and carrying out death sentences and called for international action to confront this government’s action.
“Execution of tools of suppression and intimidation of society”
The government leaders also use execution as the most important tool for suppressing and intimidating society. They try to prevent the resurgence of uprisings by increasing the number of executions. The government leaders strongly suppress any gathering related to condemning executions. And also even prevent the gathering of the families of those condemned to execution.
Revealing executions is the duty of all people to confront systematic oppression.
The killing and execution machine in Iran continues to claim victims without a moment’s pause. The dictatorial regime and its affiliated institutions seek to convince the people that they can execute anyone they want without even mentioning their names. Therefore, the disclosure or announcement of the names of the executed, as well as the names of the elements and individuals who oppress prisoners in the judicial system and prisons, is a scene of confrontation between the people and the oppressive government.
Many advocates for freedom and human rights in Iran are striving to obtain news of the executions of prisoners from credible sources or their families and publish it. The disclosure of executions has so far led to the recognition and also registration of the oppressive regime in international forums as a violator of human rights.
