His life is in danger, and the regime may execute him at any moment.

Mahdi Hassani: Third Request for Retrial Rejected; Life of Political Prisoner in Imminent Danger of Execution

#Maryam_Hassani, daughter of #Mehdi_Hassani, a political prisoner sentenced to death, shared her father's voice recording, writing:

Maryam Hassani, the daughter of political prisoner Mahdi Hassani, shared a message on her personal social media page stating: “My father’s request for a retrial was rejected for the third time by Branch 29 of the Supreme Court without even reviewing the case.”

Mahdi Hassani: Third Retrial Request Rejected
According to the Iran Human Rights Organization, on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, the third request for a retrial by Mahdi Hassani, a political prisoner sentenced to death, was rejected by the Supreme Court without any review. This rejection occurred despite the lack of legal access to the main case file by his lawyer and the presiding judge’s refusal to issue a stay of execution. This development comes amid growing concerns over intensified repression in Iran and a widespread wave of executions in the country’s prisons.

Complete Disregard for Fair Trial by the Judiciary
Maryam Hassani wrote on her social media: “My father’s request for a retrial was rejected for the third time by Branch 29 of the Supreme Court without even reviewing the case.”

The case lawyer, Amin Adel, also announced on his official X account:
“For the third time, the retrial request for Mr. #Mahdi_Hassani was rejected by Branch 29 of the Supreme Court, just like the previous times, without retrieving the main case file from the initial court and without allowing the lawyer to review the file.”

This procedure, which blatantly contradicts the most basic principles of a fair trial, has occurred in a case where a death sentence—the heaviest and most irreversible judicial penalty—has been issued.

Imminent Danger of Execution; Retrial Rejected Without Halting the Sentence
The third retrial request for Mahdi Hassani was submitted on April 28, 2025, but despite repeated follow-ups by the family and lawyer, no order to halt the execution has been issued. According to well-established legal principles, particularly in cases involving the death penalty, an immediate suspension of the execution until the retrial outcome is clarified is a fundamental and non-negotiable requirement.

Ignoring this principle has placed Mahdi Hassani’s life in immediate danger, significantly heightening concerns about the potential execution of the sentence in the coming days.

Torture, Forced Confessions, and Unfair Trial
Mahdi Hassani’s case, like those of many other political prisoners in Iran, has been accompanied by widespread reports of torture and mistreatment. In an official statement published in December 2024, Amnesty International emphasized that Mahdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani, two political prisoners sentenced to death, were subjected to torture and mistreatment, including prolonged solitary confinement, to coerce confessions.

The organization also described the trial process of these prisoners in the Revolutionary Court as “grossly unfair” and called for an immediate halt to their death sentences.

Hassani Family: Help Save Our Father’s Life
Maryam Hassani has once again taken to social media to urge the public and human rights organizations to increase pressure on the Iranian government to prevent the execution of this sentence.

The Hassani family emphasizes that the handling of their father’s case has been riddled with numerous legal flaws, repeated violations of the defendant’s rights, and a complete disregard for fair trial standards from the outset.
