Tahir Naqavi, Iranian human rights lawyer, endures critical health crisis in Evin Prison. Authorities deny urgent surgery.

Tahir Naqavi fights a dire health battle in Evin Prison as a human rights lawyer. Security forces arrested him on February 5, 2024. He represented families of 2022 protest victims. Now, he suffers from chronic illnesses without treatment. Prison doctors urge surgery. Yet, officials block hospital transfers. This denial exposes Iran’s systematic abuse of lawyers. International law demands care for inmates. However, the regime ignores it. Naqavi’s case highlights threats to legal defenders. Activists worldwide rally for his release. Therefore, global pressure must intensify to save his life.

Background of Tahir Naqavi’s Arrest and Unfair Trial

Political prisoner Tahir Naqavi

Security forces stormed Tahir Naqavi’s life on February 5, 2024. They seized him without warning. For months, uncertainty gripped his family and lawyers. Officials held him in Evin Prison. They never informed anyone. Naqavi defended families of those killed in 2022 protests. That work made him a target.

After six long months, the Tehran Revolutionary Court acted. Judge Salavati presided. He slapped Naqavi with six years in prison. Charges? Vague ones like “propaganda against the regime” and “assembly and collusion to disrupt national security.” Supplementary punishments followed. They included a two-year travel ban and two years without social rights.

The trial reeked of injustice. Naqavi’s lawyers begged for the case file. Judges denied them. They hid the reasons for charges too. Therefore, this process crushed fair defense rights. It silenced a key voice for justice.

Tahir Naqavi’s Deteriorating Health and Treatment Denial

Tahir Naqavi battles multiple illnesses for years. Prostate inflammation and enlargement torment him. Cervical and lumbar disc problems add agony. Spinal injuries weaken him further. Chronic pain shoots through his body. His right hand goes numb often. Stomach issues plague him daily. Now, his condition turns critical.

Prison doctors see the urgency. They recommend immediate surgery. They push for specialized care. However, judicial and security bosses block it all. They refuse hospital referrals. Medical furloughs? Denied outright. This blockade amounts to white torture. It treats him inhumanely.

Mohammad Reza Faqihi

Naqavi’s pain violates Iran’s own laws. Article 502 of the Criminal Procedure Code demands action. It states that worsening illness suspends sentences. Officials ignore this rule. Therefore, they risk his life deliberately.

Last September, neglect peaked. For three weeks, prison staff ignored his symptoms. Then, a stomach hemorrhage struck. Blood poured out. Even then, they barred hospital transfer. In other cases, Naqavi resists prison clothes. He rejects handcuffs and shackles. Guards punish him for it. They withhold exams and treatments. Such tactics break his spirit and body.

Escalation of Pressures and Fabricated Charges Against Tahir Naqavi

Authorities ramp up the assault on Tahir Naqavi. He endures excruciating physical pain already. Yet, they pile on more. Prison officials file new charges. “Disrupting public order” headlines one. “Insulting prison officials” tags another. These fabrications aim to crush him further.

Reports reveal worse. A guard named Reza Asadi Naderabadi attacked him. Then, they dragged Naqavi to solitary confinement. This violence shatters human dignity. It weaponizes torture against human rights lawyers. Guards use threats to silence defenders like him. Therefore, the regime’s pattern emerges clear. They target those who fight for victims.

Legal Community’s Response and Urgent Action for Tahir Naqavi

Imprisoned lawyers step up for Tahir Naqavi. Mohammad Najafi and Seyed Mohammad Reza Faqihi act boldly. They write to Bar Associations. Their letter targets the Center for Lawyers and Legal Consultants too. They detail Naqavi’s dire state. They demand immediate medical referral.

The duo cites Article 522 of the Criminal Procedure Code. It mandates suspending prison for ill inmates. Treatment becomes a legal duty. Failure invites irreparable harm. Najafi and Faqihi warn of that risk.

This letter sparks wider impact. It shows attacks on prisoners hit everyone. They assault the legal profession’s independence. Defense rights crumble under such pressure. Therefore, the community unites. They push for systemic change.

Urgent Call to International Community for Tahir Naqavi

Tahir Naqavi’s health spirals downward. Treatment denials continue unchecked. International bodies must act now. UN Special Rapporteurs lead the charge. The International Bar Association joins in. So do the International Federation for Human Rights, Amnesty International, and Human Rights Watch.

They urge diplomatic pressure. Media campaigns amplify the call. Iran must honor global obligations. Naqavi deserves his right to care. Release this criminal lawyer immediately.

Silence proves deadly. It enables a brave defender’s slow death. Naqavi stands for justice. He protects victims’ rights. If the world stays quiet, others fear speaking out. Therefore, break the silence. Save Tahir Naqavi today.

Global Human Rights Violations in Tahir Naqavi’s Imprisonment

Mohammad Najafi

Iran’s regime imprisons the ill like Tahir Naqavi. This act defies the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It clashes with ethics and law. Severe diseases demand care. Yet, Evin Prison withholds it. Such cruelty violates core articles.

Article 3 guarantees the right to life. Everyone claims it. Imprisoning a sick person without medical access endangers that life. Naqavi’s case proves the breach.

Article 5 bans torture. It forbids cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. Holding patients in poor conditions counts as torture. Naqavi endures exactly that. Guards deny him basics. Pain becomes his punishment.

Article 7 ensures equality. All stand equal before the law. Protection flows without bias. Illness should not trigger jail. Yet, Naqavi suffers discrimination. The regime targets him for his work. Therefore, these violations demand global outcry.

Tahir Naqavi symbolizes the fight. Lawyers face repression daily. His story exposes the cracks. International allies must push back. Release him. Restore his health. Uphold human rights in Iran.
