Aliyar Havasi’s Tragic Death Exposes Iran Prison Healthcare Crisis in Ghezel Hesar

Iran Human Rights Society, Friday, October 24, 2025 –  Aliyar Havasi’s death in Ghezel Hesar Prison underscores the severe prison healthcare crisis in Iran. On October 22, 2025, this prisoner from Zhuleh village lost his life. Prison staff delayed his hospital transfer despite his worsening lung condition. Fellow inmates reported ignored pleas for help. This incident sparks outrage. It reveals deep flaws in medical care for inmates. Human rights groups demand urgent reforms. Read on to uncover the details and violations.

Details of Aliyar Havasi’s Death

Aliyar Havasi

Aliyar Havasi faced a dire lung issue for days. He served time in Ghezel Hesar Prison for drug-related charges. Doctors there urged quick hospital transfer. Yet, authorities hesitated.

Fellow prisoners witnessed his agony. They begged officials to act. Hours passed without response. Finally, staff moved him as his state turned critical. Tragically, Havasi died on the way to the hospital.

This delay shocked many. It highlights how small decisions cost lives. Families now grieve a needless loss. Investigations must follow to prevent repeats.

Critical Healthcare Conditions in Ghezel Hesar Prison

Ghezel Hesar ranks among Iran’s largest prisons. Human rights watchdogs slam it often. Overcrowding plagues the facility. Medicine stocks run low. Doctors stay scarce.

Basic medical tools vanish inside. Sick inmates wait endlessly. Days turn to weeks for hospital trips. Past reports count multiple deaths from such neglect.

For instance, similar cases hit headlines before. Prisoners fade without care. Officials cite resource shortages. However, experts blame poor planning. Therefore, reforms lag behind needs. This prison healthcare crisis demands national attention now.

Human Rights Violations in Aliyar Havasi’s Death

Aliyar Havasi’s case screams injustice. It breaches core human rights. Prison staff’s inaction stole his life. This ties directly to the judiciary’s failures.

  • Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of person. The delay in treatment led to the deprivation of Aliyar Havasi’s right to life.
  • Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. Denying a sick prisoner medical care constitutes indirect torture.
  • Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for health, including medical care. The failure to provide medical treatment is a clear violation of this right.
