Iran Human Rights Society, Sunday, January 4, 2026 – Security forces arrested hundreds of protesters. Protests escalated across many cities in 2026. Reports confirm arrests in multiple provinces. Security agents acted at gathering locations. They transferred detainees to various facilities.

Citizens of different ages face detention. Backgrounds vary among the arrested. Authorities rarely announce detention locations. Charges often remain unknown. A wave of arrests hit public protests. Local sources provided the information.

In Yasuj, 26-year-old Zahra Izadi-nia was arrested during the recent protests and transferred to prison under a one-month temporary detention order. Details of the charges against her have not yet been released.

In Shahr-e Ray (Karaj area), Setayesh Khazaei, Narges Khazaei, and Elahe Khazaei – relatives of Javid (son of) Erfan Khazaei – were arrested. Setayesh and Narges are 19 and 18 years old respectively, and Elahe is 39 years old.

In Esfarayen, Pouria Aliyari, a student of safety engineering, was arrested by security forces. There is still no official information about his place of detention.

In Babol, Parsa Loghmani, a sociology student at Mazandaran University, was arrested and his situation remains unclear.

Individual Arrest Cases in Key Cities

Esfarayen: Several individuals were arrested during the protests. The names include: Ali Ghavidel, Abbas Bidi, Aryan Heydari, Isa Shokouri, Nader Tavakoli, Peyman Mirzaei, Alireza Jafari, Nader Tavakoli (repeated), and Pouria Aliyari.

Yazd: Mohammad Saebi was arrested during the protests.

Tehran: Numerous arrests have been reported, including: Amir Nodehi, Amir Mohammad Rastegar (architecture student), Majid Jamshidzadeh (industrial design student at Iran University of Science and Technology), and Meysam Koch-e-Paydeh, a resident of Nowshahr.

Sabzevar: Zahra Mahdavi (17), Erfan Abed (18), Narges Zahra Mousavi (17), Erfan Tajabadi (18), Farzad Ghazi, Mehdi Ghazi, Amir Estiri, Faraz Ziaei (17), Meysam Zakeri (17), Matin Koushk Baghi, Hooman Balash Abadi (17), and Saba Mahroumi (17) were arrested.

Mashhad: Arrests reported include: Yekta Derzadeh, Mohammad Taheri Parsa (38 years old, originally from Sabzevar, resident of Mashhad), and Hasti Ghorban.

Yasuj: In addition to previous cases, Parsa Akaber, Fardin Moslemi, and Mahan Khoubani (16 years old) were arrested during the protests.

Nahavand: Amir Mohammad Khazaei and Alireza Khazaei were arrested among the protesters.

Harsin: Several individuals including Youssef Safari (born 2003), Peyman Hosseini, Morteza Hosseini, and Ehsan Hosseini were arrested.

Isfahan: Mahshid Keshani, a student, was arrested.

Izeh: The wave of arrests continues. Names of those arrested include: Arman Soleimani (28), Shahpour Alborzi (16), Hesam Mohammadi (16), Pouria Key Shams (20), Nemat Heydari, Reza Asadi, Aref Asadi, Mousa Mousavi Mombeni (18), Elia Momani, Arman Shapouri, Armin Asadi (22), and Benyamin Mousavi (17). Also reported: Esmaeil Sheikhi (20) and Akbar Mahmoudvand (22).

Badreh: Mohsen Heydarbegi, Morad Haseli, Amin Nourmanesh, and Farhad Mohammad Rashid were among those arrested.

Masjed Soleyman and Dezful: Mohammad Karimi in Masjed Soleyman and Peyman Yousefi in Dezful were arrested during the protests.

Karaj and Zahedan: In Karaj: Kiarash Beigi was arrested. In Zahedan: Mohammadreza Borichi, Farzad Kabdani (27, son of Abdolsattar), Naser Kabdani (28, son of Nader), Mohsen Kabdani (32), Kian Salarnezhad, Zobair Barahouei, Hanif Barahouei, Omar Gomshadzei, Ehsan Narouei, and Abdolrahman Narouei were arrested.

Darreh Shahr: Abolfazl Ghasemi, Sattar Zeidi, Reza Heydari, Saman Gholami, and Shayan Aslmarz. Abdanan: Omid Naseri. Momori: Fardin Hatami, Reza Khosravi, Mohammad Javad Zarei, and Abolfazl Zarei. Sarableh: Rahim Sadeghi.

Kermanshah and Sarpol-e Zahab: In Kermanshah: Younes Jamshidi, Milad Shirazi, and Navid Rastegar. In Harsin (additional names): Rahman Azarang, Sajjad Kakaei, Shapour Rashidi, Mehdi Bali, Mohammad Mehdi Karami (17), Zahed Afshari, Youssef Kakavand, and Nouraldin Mousazadeh. Also: Ali Cheraghi and Milad Alibeigi. In Sarpol-e Zahab: Mehdi Karimi, Jabbar Jamshidi, Ghaem Badri, Masoud Aghaie, Ahad Moradi, Esfandiar Sarvari, and Askar Najafi.

Other arrests: In Kermanshah: Mahsa Zarei. In Mahabad: Yaghoub Mabzoul. In Behbahan: Amir Mehdi Razm, Abolfazl Jafsh, and Abolfazl Ashnoud. In Qazvin: Seyed Mehdi Mortazavi.

Human Rights Violations Linked to These Arrests

During the widespread arrests of protesters in the recent demonstrations, numerous principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights have been violated by security institutions through the lack of legal transparency:

Violation of the prohibition of arbitrary arrest – Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Arrest of individuals without a valid judicial warrant.
Violation of the right to a fair trial – Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Denial of access to a lawyer and a transparent judicial process for detainees.
Violation of freedom of expression – Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Arrest of citizens for expressing opinions or participating in protests.
Violation of freedom of assembly and association – Article 20 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Suppression of peaceful gatherings and action against participants.
