Regarding the death penalty
The death penalty is a type of punishment and the harshest sentence for convicts. Currently, most countries in the world have abolished the death penalty, and countries that still have this type of punishment in their laws refrain from issuing or implementing such sentences except in rare cases. The death penalty is legal in Iran, and in Iranian judicial rulings, this punishment is issued for some political crimes, murder, rape, child sexual abuse, sodomy, drug trafficking, armed robbery, kidnapping and fighting.
Historically, execution has been a tool of power and governance for dictators to intimidate and subdue people. The dictatorship ruling Iran has been using the tool of execution for forty years to create fear and permanently establish their rule, because refraining from using execution and suppression would mean the destruction of the system of the Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist.
