Amnesty International writes in the beginning of its annual report: “Iran was shaken by an unprecedented popular uprising against the Islamic Republic system. During these protests, security forces illegally fired live bullets and live ammunition to quell the protests, killing hundreds of men, women and children and injuring thousands. Also, thousands of people arbitrarily detained or unfairly tried.

Women, LGBT people and ethnic and religious minorities suffer from severe discrimination and violence. Enforced disappearances, torture, and other ill-treatment, including the deliberate denial of medical attention to prisoners, are widespread and systematic.

Cruel and inhumane punishments, including flogging, amputation and blinding, inflicted or carried out. The use of the death penalty increased, and public executions resumed. The trials remained systematically unfair.”

We remind you that in March 2023. The United Nations Human Rights Council extended the mission of the Special Rapporteur on Iran. Also, in November 2022. Human Rights Council appointed a fact-finding panel to investigate cases of human rights violations related to uprising of Iranian people.

Iran is facing impunity for ongoing crimes against humanity in terms of extrajudicial executions and enforced disappearances. Some of those who participated in these crimes are in high government positions, including the president. Also, high walls is built around the Khavaran mass graves, where the remains of several hundred victims are believed to be buried, which has raised concerns about the security of this place.

They added Instagram and WhatsApp to the list of blocked or filtered mobile apps and social media platforms. Which included Facebook, Signal, Telegram, Twitter and YouTube.

The annual report of Amnesty International, since 1961, examines the situation of human rights in different countries of the world and the activities of this organization to defend human rights.
