Hunger strike of political prisoner Arjang Davoudi in Gohardasht Karaj prison
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Friday, September 9, 2022, the political prisoner Arjang Davoudi started a hunger and medicine strike due to the pressure and being transferred to a secure prison.
On September 6, 2022, political prisoner Arjang Davoudi transferred to the secure cell of Gohardasht Karaj prison. While Arjang Davoudi cannot bear the conditions of solitary cell due to severity of his illness.
This political prisoner has started a hunger and drug strike in protest of being transferred to solitary cell.This food and drug strike can seriously affect his health.
Mr. Davoudi’s physical condition
70-year-old political prisoner Arjang Davoudi is suffering from kidney disease, dangerous infectious disease, prostate disease, and cataracts. He is also practically unable to walk due to being thrown from a height in Zahedan prison.
This political prisoner cannot bear to stay in the harsh conditions of prison, especially solitary cell. And There is a risk of aggravation of his illness. In addition, the food and drug strike exacerbate his illnesses.
It should be noted that in April 2022, after a verbal argument with the head of the prison, a case was prepared by the prison guards and sent to the so-called “Disciplinary Council”. The council meeting was held in the absence of Mr. Davoudi and decision was made to transfer him to Karaj Central Prison.
Finally, the prison authorities transferred Mr. Arjang Davoudi to the quarantine of Gohardasht prison, which is a dirty and unsanitary place known as Seko. This room is a place where prisoners suspected of hiding drugs are kept and is very dirty.
It should be noted that in 2017, the head and deputy of Zahedan prison threw Arjang Davoudi down from second floor. He was injured in both legs and hip, and he is not able to walk easily now.
Engineer Arjang Davoudi is one of the oldest political prisoners in Iran
Engineer Arjang Davoudi is one of the oldest political prisoners in Iran. He is 70 years old and suffering from diabetes.
During his 19 years in prison, he lost part of his hearing and vision due to torture. In 2018, he suffered a fracture of upper part of his right leg and left leg due to being thrown from sharp and 16-step stairs of office of head of Zahedan prison. Also, he has lesions in the lower few vertebrae of his spine. Now he is able to walk with a crutch to a very limited extent.
Arjang Davoudi born in 1951 in Abadan and studied in America. He graduated from University of Texas with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management.
Mr. Davoudi was among the active students in Confederation of Iranian Students before the revolution. After revolution of 1978, he returned to Iran and worked in the Ministry of Oil. Seeing oppression and dictatorship, he decided to fight against it.
In the past 19 years, Mr. Arjang Davoudi was exiled to various prisons such as Evin Prison, Ahvaz Detention Center, Bandar Abbas Prison, Rajaei Shahr Prison, Zabul Prison and Zahedan Prison.
In 2007, his house and personal car seized and confiscated by government agents. During his imprisonment, he protested many times with his messages against violation of human rights in dictatorial prisons of Velayat Faqih(Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist).
