At least 79 citizens executed in one month \ Increase in government murders in December 2022
In the last week of November and the first three weeks of December, at least 79 citizens were executed in Iran. This means that more than two citizens were executed daily in different prisons across the country. The number of executions is shocking
Iranian Human Rights Society, December 23, 2022. Based on the reports collected in the Statistics Center of the Iranian Human Rights Society. Within a month, at least 79 people were executed in prisons across the country.
Among these 79 people, the execution of two detained protestors Mohsen Shekari and Majidreza Rahnavard is seen. Mohsen Shekari at dawn on Thursday, December 8 in Gohardasht prison (Rajai Shahr). His charge was “Moharebeh by injuring a repressive force and closing the street”. On Monday, December 12, Majidreza Rahnavard was publicly executed in Mashhad on the charge of “Moharebeh through the killing of two Basij”.
These executions took place in Zahedan, Zabul, Ilam, Chabahar, Iranshahr, Vakil Abad, Mashhad, Kashan, Isfahan, Bandar Abbas, Hamedan prisons. Sabzevar, Rasht, Rajai Shahr, Adelabad, Shiraz, Qom, Saravan, Yasouj, Taibad, Qazvin. Khorramabad, Arak, Mako, Gorgan, Central Karaj, and Sari.
At least 25 of the 79 people who were executed were Baloch compatriots.
With the beginning of the protests, the wave of executions has spread and increased shockingly.
This is while many death sentences are carried out secretly and the news does not leak outside the prisons. Therefore, the real number is much higher than this number.
The number of executions since the beginning of this Iranian year 1401 is at least 515 people. And since the beginning of 2022 at least 609 people. which has significantly increased compared to the same date last year.
The UN Human Rights Special Rapporteur on Iran accused the Iranian government officials of launching a new campaign to execute prisoners.
It is worth mentioning that with the beginning of the protests, extensive efforts have been made by the authorities and representatives of countries to stop the executions, especially the execution of protesters in Iran. Among other things, the British Amnesty International asked the citizens of this country to ask their representatives to write a letter to the Iranian embassy in the UK and demand an immediate stop to the execution of the protesters.
Also, in a joint statement, the foreign ministries of Canada, Australia and New Zealand condemned the “brutal” suppression of Iranian protests. And they asked the Islamic Republic to immediately end the “cruel and inhuman” death penalty.
On the other hand, many parliamentarians and representatives of the countries have taken political sponsorship of the arrested protesters in order to stop their death sentence.
Nevertheless, the judiciary of the Islamic Republic has emphasized on speeding up the execution of death sentences.
These executions have no purpose other than to increase repression to create fear and terror in the society. Judiciary is only looking for the neck for its rope to stifle protests.
Iran’s human rights Soceity, while continuously trying to convey the voice of the prisoners to global public opinion . And stop the death sentences. It also asks all countries and human rights institutions not to fail in any effort to stop crime in Iran.
