17 Years Behind Bars Without Furlough

Ayoub Porkar hospital transfer highlights medical neglect. Political prisoner endures 17 years without furlough amid hernia crisis.

Iran Human Rights Society, Friday, October 24, 2025 – Ayoub Porkar hospital transfer shock17 Years Behind Bars Without Furloughs observers. Security forces arrested him on January 24, 2008. Now, after 17 years, he faces a life-threatening hernia. Prison officials delayed his move to an outside facility for weeks. This delay risked rupture and death. Born in 1953 in Pirluha village near Tabriz, Porkar serves a 20-year sentence. Originally, judges handed him death for alleged Mujahedin-e Khalq ties. The appeal court reduced it. His case exposes Iran’s harsh treatment of dissidents. Furthermore, it breaches global rights standards. Explore the full story of Ayoub Porkar hospital transfer below.

Worsening Illness and Prison Neglect in Sheiban

Political prisoner Ayoub Porkar’s illness worsens in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz

Ayoub Porkar battles multiple health woes. Severe knee degeneration plagues him first. Grade 3 varicocele adds agony. Now, advanced hernia strikes hard. Torture during early interrogations sparked these issues. Prison conditions worsen them daily. Informed sources confirm this pattern.

For months, Porkar struggles to walk. Sharp pains grip his abdomen and legs often. Yet, Sheiban Prison staff ignores pleas. They skip specialist visits. Instead, officials push painkillers only. This neglect borders on cruelty. However, fellow inmates push back. Their repeated demands finally force action. Porkar’s recent hospital transfer follows this outcry. Therefore, pressure saves lives sometimes.

17 Years Behind Bars Without Furlough

Ayoub Porkar endures nonstop detention. Since January 24, 2008, he skips all furloughs. He misses outside medical care too. Authorities shuffle him across facilities. He starts at Tehran’s Evin Prison. Then, they send him to Behbahan’s Fajr. Next stops include Ahvaz’s Karun and Shushtar center. Since February 23, 2015, Sheiban in Ahvaz holds him. Each move brings tighter controls. Communication with family and lawyers breaks often. These shifts isolate him further. Moreover, they crush his spirit. Porkar fights on despite the toll.

Human Rights Breaches in Ayoub Porkar’s Case

Reports on Ayoub Porkar’s situation are a clear manifestation of the violation of fundamental human rights in the ruling dictatorship.

The judicial and security authorities’ behavior toward him contradicts several articles of international human rights documents.

  • Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

Porkar was subjected to physical and psychological torture during interrogation, and its effects remain in his health to this day.

  • Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including medical care.

Preventing medical treatment and delaying dispatch to the hospital is a direct violation of this right.

  • Article 10 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: All persons deprived of their liberty shall be treated with humanity and with respect for the inherent dignity of the human person.

The regime targets political foes this way. It uses deprivation and pressure relentlessly. Health neglect becomes a weapon. Porkar’s plight exemplifies this strategy. International groups watch closely now. They urge swift intervention.

Urgent Push for Health and Freedom

Concerns mount over Ayoub Porkar’s fate. His condition stays dire post-transfer. Human rights advocates demand action. They seek guaranteed medical aid first. Then, full release follows. Global bodies must press Iran hard. End this torment now. Porkar’s endurance inspires, but enough is enough.
