Condemnation in the Human Rights Council Session

The United Nations Human Rights Council in its emergency session that was held on Wednesday March 25, 2026 at the request of the Persian Gulf countries in Geneva, approved a resolution on the human rights consequences of the attacks of the dictatorship ruling Iran on the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait. This resolution was approved by consensus, and in it, attacks in the region and any action to close, disrupt, or interfere with maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz were condemned.

In this resolution, attacks on energy facilities and non-military infrastructure have also been condemned, and concern has been expressed about the human and human rights consequences of these attacks. Also, in this resolution, cases of violation of international humanitarian law and human rights have been condemned.

Request for Compensation and Investigation of Human Rights Violations

In the Human Rights Council resolution, the dictatorship ruling Iran has been asked to compensate the damages caused by its attacks quickly and appropriately. The member countries of this 47-member council voted on a draft resolution in which unprovoked and intentional attacks were condemned and the request for payment of compensation was raised. Also, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has been asked to monitor the situation.

Previously, Volker Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, had warned that with the increase in the number of missile launches, the region is facing a widespread disaster, and this situation could affect the entire Middle East and even beyond.

Consequences of War and Concerns of the Countries in the Region

In the Human Rights Council session, the Persian Gulf countries announced that due to attacks on their infrastructure, they are facing a serious threat. The President of the Human Rights Council also announced that these attacks may be considered war crimes. According to reports, the war in the past approximately one month has caused drone and missile attacks on energy and non-military infrastructure in the Persian Gulf countries, the killing of civilians, and an increase in oil prices.

Position of the Dictatorship Ruling Iran on the Attacks

Officials of the dictatorship ruling Iran have announced that these attacks were carried out in retaliation for the killing of civilians. This is while various reports indicate the killing of thousands of people during the bloody suppression of nationwide protests in Dey 1404 (December 2025 – January 2026) inside the country.
