Execution of 4 Prisoners in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad, and Nahavand Prison

The execution statistics for the month of Khordad have reached at least 141 prisoners. Thus, nearly 5 prisoners have been executed daily.

The Iran Human Rights Society, Friday, June 26, 2025- Four prisoners were executed in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad and Nahavand Prison. The charges against these prisoners were murder and related to narcotics. Thus, the number of prisoners executed in Tir has reached at least 10 prisoners.

Execution of 3 Prisoners in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad

At dawn on Wednesday, 4 Tir 1404, the execution sentence of 3 prisoners who were Afghan nationals was carried out in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad. The charge against these prisoners was related to narcotics. The identity of these prisoners is unknown, but the first names of two of them were Padeshah and Ahmad. They had previously been arrested and sentenced to death on charges related to narcotics.

Execution of 1 Prisoner in Nahavand Prison

At dawn on Tuesday, 27 Khordad 1404, a prisoner named Alimorad Niari was executed in Nahavand Prison. This prisoner was married, a father of two daughters, and a resident of Mirbeig Jonubi village in Delfan County. He was arrested in 1400 on the charge of murder and sentenced to death.

Article 3 of this charter explicitly states: Every individual has the right to life. This right shall not be subjected to any deprivation except by a verdict issued by a competent court due to the commission of a crime that is considered a crime under the law.

The death penalty, as the highest punishment, is directly in conflict with this article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights because:

– Right to Life: The right to life is recognized as a fundamental and inalienable right. The death penalty deprives this right.

– Irreversibility: In the case of the execution of a death sentence, there is no possibility of rectifying a judicial error.

– Torture and Inhuman Treatment: Some methods of executing the death penalty are considered torture and inhuman treatment, which is itself contrary to the provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Violation of Human Rights Obligations Related to the Death Penalty

According to Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, of which Iran is a signatory, the issuance and execution of the death penalty are only permissible with full guarantees for a fair trial and for the most serious crimes. In many similar cases, lack of transparency, restrictions on the defendant’s legal rights, and issuance of verdicts in courts lacking the necessary independence are considered contrary to this fundamental human rights principle.
