Execution of two prisoners in Isfahan and Ardabil prisons. Amnesty International Secretary General’s call to stop executions in Iran
Two prisoners sentenced to death in Isfahan and Ardabil prisons – at the same time, Secretary General of Amnesty International called for a halt to the execution of death sentences in Iran.
Iranian Human Rights society, on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, two prisoners executed in Isfahan and Ardabil prisons. On Sunday, September 11, a prisoner named Mehran Noormohammadi executed on charges of armed robbery. And on Monday, September 12, a prisoner named Ahmed Panahi executed on charges of murder in Ardabil prison.
Also, at the same time as the protests of the prisoners’ families to stop execution of death sentences, Agnes Callamard, the Secretary General of Amnesty International, called for a halt to execution of death sentences in Iran and wrote:
I stand in solidarity with the distraught relatives of death row prisoners in Iran who are bravely protesting to prevent the execution of their loved ones. Iranian authorities should abolish the death penalty, which is the ultimate cruel and inhumane punishment.
Execution of a prisoner in Isfahan
At dawn on Sunday, September 11, 2022, death sentence of a 27-year-old prisoner named Mehran Noormohammadi executed in Dastgerd prison in Isfahan.
Mehran Nurmohammadi was 27 years old and a resident of Minadasht, Foladshahr, Isfahan.
It is worth mentioning that at the same time as Mehran Noorhamdi, another prisoner named Hasan Mohammadipour (Aghamohammadi) was also executed, which the Iranian Human Rights Society had previously published a report on.
HAALVASH wrote in a report about the execution of these two prisoners: “Mehran and Hassan arrested in 2016 in a joint case in Isfahan on charges of armed robbery and aerial shooting in the city and sentenced to death under the Moharebeh) war( article.”
On Wednesday, they called these two prisoners under the pretext that you have received your release letter and said that you will be transferred to Najaf Abad prison. But they were transferred to solitary cell and told them to call their families so that they can meet for the last time. Then they were executed on Saturday, September 11.
Execution of a prisoner in Ardabil
At dawn on Monday, September 12, 2022, the death sentence of a prisoner named Ahmad Panahi Khanqa carried out in Ardabil prison on the charge of murder.
In the report of this execution, the Iranian Human Rights Organization said that this prisoner transferred to solitary cell on Saturday, September 10, to carry out the sentence. Last month, he was transferred to solitary cell for execution, and he returned to his cell with One month deadline.This prisoner has been in prison for four years on charges of murder.
Iran’s human rights society has warned against the implementation of cruel death sentences and demands an immediate stop to this inhumane sentence. As the Secretary General of Amnesty International has announced, Iranian authorities should abolish the death penalty, which is the ultimate cruel and inhumane punishment.
The number of executions reached at least 350 executions since the beginning of the Iranian year 1401 and at least 446 executions since the beginning of 2022. Also, the number of executions in the Iranian month of Shahrivar in 22 days reached at least 57 people, which means more than two people per day.
