No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign; Release of Protest Video by Political Prisoners’ Families
Iran Human Rights Society, Tuesday, June 24, 2025 – Amid the country’s critical situation due to military attacks and a state of war, families of political prisoners have once again demanded the release of their loved ones.
The Voice of Political Prisoners’ Families: Free Our Children
On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, the family of political prisoner Vahid Bani Amerian recorded and shared a video on social media, calling for the release of their child and other political prisoners. In this protest video, they chant:
“Free our children
Free our kids
Free the prisoners
No to execution”
The family emphasized the need to halt executions, stating that their children in prison have no freedom of action and cannot even leave to protect their lives. In the current war-like conditions, with the country under threat, the regime is responsible for the safety of prisoners, and any harm to them is an inexcusable crime.
Prisoners: Defenseless in a War-like Situation
On June 23, 2025, following the bombing of administrative areas and parts of Evin Prison, including Ward 209, the judiciary evacuated the prison and transferred political prisoners to Greater Tehran Prison. Female political prisoners held in the women’s ward were also moved to Qarchak Prison in Varamin. These transfers were carried out with the use of armed prison guards, force, and violence.
Human rights activists have repeatedly warned that political prisoners, especially in times of crisis and war, are in the most vulnerable position. They are under the complete control of security and judicial authorities, unable to defend themselves or escape life-threatening dangers.
In this regard, families of political prisoners stress that the regime must take responsibility for their safety, and at the very least, the release of political and ideological prisoners should be prioritized in these circumstances.
Continued Repression to Prevent Uprisings
In recent weeks, instead of easing pressures, the ruling dictatorship has launched a new wave of arrests. According to official reports and human rights sources, dozens of people across various provinces have been detained for their activities on social media or protesting the country’s situation. Charges such as “disturbing public opinion,” “propaganda against the regime,” and “supporting the enemy” are leveled against detainees without credible evidence.
Observers believe these actions are part of a systematic suppression policy to prevent popular protests and social uprisings. The regime is attempting to silence dissent and curb the spread of public unrest through intense security measures and preemptive arrests.
Week 74 of the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign: A Voice That Will Not Be Silenced
The No to Execution Tuesdays campaign, now in its 74th week, has become one of the most significant symbols of resistance against the policy of execution and repression. Families of political prisoners, grieving mothers, and human rights activists participate weekly, holding photos of their loved ones and demanding the abolition of death sentences and the release of prisoners.
Over the past 70 weeks, this campaign has succeeded in amplifying the voices of victims’ families to the public and international media. The continuation of this peaceful movement demonstrates the resilience and determination of the people in their fight against judicial and security violence.
Prisoners’ Rights in Wartime
Under international human rights law, political and ideological prisoners must be guaranteed the right to life, fair trial, and freedom from torture and inhumane treatment, even in wartime. According to Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions, even in non-international armed conflicts, parties are obligated to treat civilians and those in custody with respect.
Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions: Inhumane treatment, torture, and execution without a fair trial are prohibited.
Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest or exile.
Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Everyone has the right to a fair and public trial.
Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Everyone has the right to freedom of expression.
Human rights organizations and international bodies have repeatedly condemned the ruling dictatorship for violating these principles, calling for an immediate halt to executions and the release of ideological prisoners.
Continued Resistance and Hope for Freedom
The No to Execution Tuesdays campaign persists, with families of political prisoners loudly proclaiming: “No to execution, free our children.” This message has resonated not only within the country but also globally. The international community must take these voices seriously and, through political and legal pressure, compel the regime’s leaders to stop executions and free prisoners.
