Iran sentences 67-year-old Zahra Shahbaz Tabari to death for alleged Mojahedin support

Zahra Shahbaz Tabari was arrested in April 2025 after security agents raided her home in Rasht without presenting a judicial warrant.

Zahra Tabari’s Message:

Dear friends, this is a voice calling for justice and freedom. They sentenced me to death penalty just by a single word called baghy (armed rebellion). This is just enough to sentence all those who [are] politically opposed or even have their own mental belief to the death penalty. I applied for bail but I don’t rely or further trust this process.

I rely on you as a jury member of my trial in worldwide court [high]. To me, it’s not a matter of saving [the] life of an individual but saving the lives of many others. This reminded me, once a man, I think it was Neil Armstrong sent us a message when he was far away from earth “a small step for man, a giant move for mankind” he said.

Zahra Shahbaz Tabari

Now, I want to take just a small step for saving a life, carry us to move men to condemn human rights violation in this corner of the world. So, please raise your voice for justice and freedom on behalf of us.

Thank you all.\

Arrest Without Warrant: A Shocking Raid

Security agents stormed Zahra Shahbaz Tabari’s private home in Rasht. This happened in April 2025. They showed no judicial warrant. Agents grabbed communication and electronic devices from her and her daughter. The family lost contact immediately. For a long time, they knew nothing about her detention place or health. Such actions crush privacy rights. Furthermore, they fuel fear among dissidents. Zahra, from Babol, now resides in Rasht. She holds a master’s in electrical engineering. Despite her age, authorities targeted her fiercely.

Swift Death Sentence: A 10-Minute Farce

Branch 1 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court issued the death penalty. Judge Ahmad Darvish Goftar presided over the video conference trial last week. It lasted under ten minutes. Her charge? Support for the People’s Mojahedin Organization. However, sources say the official accusation is “propaganda against the regime.” This vague label often silences expression. The court-appointed lawyer offered no real defense. Zahra’s son called it a “pre-determined show.” Therefore, fair trial standards vanished. No independent counsel joined. The rushed process shocks observers.
