Mass execution in Iran, under the rule of fundamentalist leaders, ranks second in terms of population. And also first in terms of the proportionate number of executions.
According to the Iran Human Rights Society, on the morning of Wednesday, 18th October 2023, the execution of 10 prisoners in Karaj’s Ghezelhesar Prison carried out. The identities of two of the executed individuals are Farshad Shahbazi and Mohammad Behzadi.
These two individuals had previously been arrested and sentenced to death by the judiciary on charges related to drugs. The identities of the other eight individuals sentenced to death, who previously arrested on murder charges, are unknown. These individuals transferred from the public ward to solitary confinement on Tuesday. There is also no precise information available about the names and fate of these eight individuals.
Mass execution is the tools of dictatorships’ governance
Historically, execution has been used as a tool by dictatorships to intimidate and subdue the people. The dictatorship ruling Iran for 40 years has also used execution to create fear and establish its permanent governance. Abandoning mass execution and suppression means the destruction of the current oppressive regime.
Currently, only 34 countries use inhumane punishment of execution. Under the rule of fundamentalist leaders, Iran ranks second in terms of the number of executions and first in terms of the number of executions proportional to its population.
Lack of modern laws in the judiciary of the government
The absence of modern criminal laws in the judiciary of the government and also the lack of classification in murder cases have led to any type of murder being considered intentional murder without considering the motive, background, etc. This crime, according to the criminal laws of the government, results in the issuance of a death sentence.
