Evin Prison

On the 70th week of the nationwide “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign, the chants of political women prisoners in the women’s ward of Evin Prison echoed from within the prison walls: “If you execute, we will rise!”

Iran Human Rights Society, Tuesday, May 27, 2025 – In the 70th week of the nationwide “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign, political women prisoners in Evin Prison’s women’s ward voiced their support for this grassroots movement with bold and powerful slogans. In the prison courtyard, they loudly called out the names of political prisoners sentenced to death and, with resolute cries, conveyed a message of solidarity and protest from the heart of the prison to society.

The women political prisoners in Evin’s women’s ward chanted:

“Women’s ward of Evin, united and resolute, we stand until the death penalty is abolished!”

“This is the final message: If you execute, we will rise!”

“Death to the dictator!”

“We swear by the blood of our comrades, we stand until the end!”

“We swear by the martyrs, we stand until the end!”

“No to repression, no to execution, no to threats—they no longer work!”

“The execution regime will never sleep soundly!”

“Arrest, imprison, kill—dig your own grave with your own hands!”

“The execution regime must be destroyed!”

“Political prisoners must be freed!”

“Even if our heads or lives are taken, freedom will never go!”

This symbolic protest coincided with the expansion of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign across the country, once again demonstrating that resistance against the cycle of death is alive and vibrant not only in the streets but also within prison walls.

Nationwide Protest Against Execution in the 70th Week of the “Tuesdays Against Execution” Campaign

25 Cities Rise in Support of Women Prisoners’ Protest

Alongside the resounding voices from Evin’s women’s ward, the streets and public parks of 25 cities in Iran saw gatherings of families of political prisoners, protesting youth, and human rights activists. Cities such as Tehran, Amol, Ahvaz, Rudsar, Sirjan, Mahshahr, Mashhad, Astara, Borujen, Bandar Abbas, Rasht, Shaft, Shahr-e Kord, Qeshm, Qom, Hamedan, Yazd, and Nishapur became stages for widespread and courageous civil protests.

Participants in these gatherings held photos of political prisoners sentenced to death and raised slogans such as:

“Immediate abolition of the death penalty!”

“No to execution!”

“No to medieval execution verdicts!”

“Do not execute!”

Families and mothers of prisoners, with placards in hand and cries born of deep pain and resistance, called on society to support the campaign:

“No to execution, do not execute our children!”

“Immediate abolition of the death penalty!”

“Support our children’s freedom from execution!”

“Support Tuesdays Against Execution!”

“We, as parents, support Tuesdays Against Execution!”

“Help Iran’s children!”

From Prisons to Streets: Solidarity Against the Machinery of Death

The “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign, initiated by political prisoners within prisons, has now grown into a nationwide movement active in 44 prisons across the country. Prisons such as Evin, Ghezel Hesar, Rajai Shahr, Arak Central, Kermanshah’s Dizelabad, Isfahan’s Dastgerd, Qom’s Langerud, and Sanandaj Prison have become strongholds of resistance, carrying the call of “No to execution” beyond the bars.

The unified voices of women prisoners in Evin, especially in the 70th week of this campaign, showed that the fight against execution knows no boundaries of place or time. From the prison courtyard to bustling streets, the cry of protest remains loud and unrelenting.

The Death Penalty: A Political Tool for Repression

Human rights activists and international organizations have repeatedly emphasized that in the repressive system, the death penalty is not a tool for justice but rather an instrument for instilling fear, exacting revenge on social activists, and suppressing ethnic and religious minorities. Many defendants are tried in closed courts without access to independent lawyers or fair trials and are sentenced to death, while numerous reports of torture and forced confessions have surfaced.

Iran has one of the highest execution rates in the world, with political prisoners, detained protesters, Kurds, Baluchis, and Sunnis being the primary victims of these verdicts.

Tuesdays Against Execution: A Cry That Will Not Be Silenced

As the “Tuesdays Against Execution” campaign approaches its next months of activity, it has become a platform for national unity against judicial violence and execution. The voices of the women in Evin’s ward, resilient women standing firm against threats and repression, have become a symbol of perseverance—a vivid reminder that even behind the high walls of prisons, the cry for justice continues to resonate.
