Statistics of the Massacre of Political Prisoners in 1988 – Horrific Crime Against Humanity – Murder Tolls of 1988, Chapter 7
Chapter 7 – Murder statistics 1988
In the continuation of a series of articles on the massacre of political prisoners in 1988, in Chapter 7. We will look at the number of those massacred in 1988.
It has been 35 years since the horrific massacre of political prisoners ordered by Khomeini in 1988. But there are still no accurate figures on the number of massacres, disaster victims and massacres. Of course, a review of many of the evidence suggests that more than 30,000 people executed in the massacre. However, the reporters believe that collecting the birth certificates of the massacred and burning the files. Destruction of graves, the prohibition of mourning, gatherings, memorial ceremonies, and anniversaries. And the eradication of the works and cementing of mass graves. And other factors make it impossible to obtain the actual figures of the 1988 executions.
Remarks by Reza Malek about the Massacred Victims:
Reza Malek, former deputy head of the Ministry of Intelligence under Ali Fallahian, in a disclosure from inside the prison in 2008, addressed the UN Secretary General about the number of massacres in 1988 and said:
“The crimes of this regime are so great that over the course of several nights in 1988, more than 33,700 prisoners executed, executed and buried in mass graves by containers and bulldozers.”
Mohammad Niazi, the former head of the Judiciary Organization of the Armed Forces at a conference commemorating Beheshti on Monday, June 27, 2021, defended the massacre and considered it compatible with Khomeini’s fatwa, including: “Unfortunately, they say the verdict of the Imam but at the same time they do not explain the statistics are lying too. The Ayatollah Montazeri says, “I doubt between 4,000 and 3,000 people.”
Mehdi Khazali, son of Sheikh Ghasem Khazali (27 August 2016)
Mahdi Khazali, son of Sheikh Qasim Khazali (27 August 2016) said of the number of massacres. “They sentenced to imprisonment and should have been released. There is no justification for us to make excuses, to take them out of the cells and hang them.
Within a month, the narrative of Mr. Montezari was about 4,000 people. According to the deputy of the Ministry of Intelligence, there are about 20,000 people in Tehran and the provinces. 4,000 people belonging to Tehran. And according to the narration of someone like Mr. Maleki, about 33,000 people hanged within a month and a few days thirty or so days.
Were their bodies delivered? Did the families find out? Did you give the graves to the families? It’s all the civil rights you have violated, but who did? Certainly, these three people who are now ministers, one is the head of the Holy Quds Shrine. And one of them presides over the disciplinary tribunal of the judges, must be held accountable.”
It is worth noting that the ruling dictatorship of our country has still given no indication of the mass victims of the massive explosion in November 1988 in Evin prison. Numerous reports indicate the massacre of a large number of political prisoners sympathetic to the PMOI in the blast. Of the mass of dead hanged in public, only a few names obtained. Numerous reports of gangs of 7 to 20 prisoners hanging from Kermanshah, Harsin, Ilam, Dezful, Garmsar, Saveh, Varamin. And Karaj to Tabriz, Mashhad and Bandar Abbas shows that in the winter of 1988, many political prisoners hanged in public as drug convicts.
Percentage of Massacres of 1988:
According to the published names and specifications of those executed, 35 percent of them martyred in Tehran, mainly in Evin Prison. Fourteen percent in Gohardasht Prison, another 46 percent in cities across the country, and the whereabouts of 5 percent of them are unknown.
Witnesses to this crime provide evidence of the Statistics of massacres that showed that up to 300 people left in Gohardasht Prison until September 7, 1988, when they transferred to Evin. There are credible reports of the transfer of 860 bodies from Evin to Behesht Zahra on August 13-17،1988.
Also, in the three wards of Evin Women’s Prison, 80 percent of female political prisoners affiliated with the MKO were hanged or executed by September 1988.
The list also shows that more than 40 percent of the list executed in August of 1988 in less than three weeks. In this list of the statistics of the November 1988 martyrs, only 334 people mentioned. However, credible reports indicate that in only a few cities in this month, 400 people executed in Urmia Prison, more than 250 people executed in one time in Rasht Prison, and 84 people executed in Mashhad Prison on one occasion.
In particular, the dictatorial regime with extensive and systematic efforts prevents leaks of information and news of the massacre. Most of the dead never revealed, especially in the cities. Of the 100 or 120 people who were known to buried in one of the mass graves of Rasht’s Khavaran, only 20 or 30 revealed. There is no information about the massacre in the prisons of border towns. There are still no clear figures of those executed in different cities or coastal areas. Of the large prisons of Vakilabad and Adel Abad, which had hundreds of political prisoners, there are no other names and specifications except a few whose relatives or acquaintances were able to send their names.
