Looting of prisoners by doubling the rate of telephone calls in the Karaj’s central prison
Despite the severe disturbance in telephone calls, the rate of telephone conversations has increased in Karaj Central Prison.
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Thursday, June 25, 2023.
The rate of telephone conversations among prisoners in Karaj Central Prison (Karaj Penitentiary) increased. The response of the prison officials to the protest of the prisoners is: “Despite the continuous protests and complaints of the prisoners, the inspector of Khosropur prison answered that »you have no other choice and you have to accept this..”
According to a reliable source, due to the prison’s debt to the telecommunications company, the previous phone system taken out of service and replaced by a new phone system, which is apparently satellite.
This new telephone system is continuously disconnected and does not respond to the prisoners of this prison, and in practice it has caused problems for the prisoners to contact their families.
However, despite the serious problem of this phone system, they have doubled the rate of calls, which means looting as much as possible from the pockets of the prisoners.
Despite the continuous protests and complaints of the prisoners, the inspector of Khosropur prison replied that you have no other choice, and you have to accept this.
Extortion and looting of prisoners is a very common thing in Iranian prisons. The prison authorities use all kinds of tricks, including increasing the price of phone calls, to empty the pockets of the prisoners.
