The last court session of the accused in Ekbatan case

This case, like many cases of detained youths, did not go through its normal process and many forced confessions obtained under torture.

At the same time as the nationwide protests and after the killing of a Basiji member in November 2022, the security forces raided this town and arrested at least 50 youths

According to the report of the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Monday, January 8, 2024, the last court session of hearing the charges against the defendants in the case known as Ekbatan town held. This case examined in Branch 13 of Criminal Court 1 of Tehran province. So far, the judiciary has not provided details of the sessions of this court for public information.

The defendants in this case are: Milad Armon, Amir Mohammad Khosh Ighbal, Alireza Bermarz Pournak, Navid Najaran, Mehdi Imani and Alireza Kafaei. All these people are among the detainees of the nationwide protests of 2022.

At the same time as the nationwide protests and after the killing of a Basiji in November 2022. The security forces raided this town and arrested at least 50 youths. They have finally issued an indictment for 14 of these youths.

Speeding up the trial process and risking lives for the accused in Ekbatan town

Currently, this case held in the 13th branch of the Criminal Court due to the accusation of participation in the murder. The Revolutionary Court is also investigating the case of the youth of Ekbatan town for the charge of gathering and collusion against national security and war.

In order to speed up the trial process, the heads of the judiciary have referred this case, which previously in the prosecutor’s office, to branch 13 of the criminal court. Expediting the investigation and quickly assigning the defendants has increased the risk of execution of these young people. Especially since before this, the security case of those arrested in Ekbatan town was pursued by Judge Salvati. He is one of the most notorious people in the judiciary, who issued several heavy sentences.Including death, for political defendants.

This case, like many cases of detained youths, did not go through its normal process. And also many forced confessions obtained under torture. Previously, news of the brutal torture of the arrested by the security agents had been published.
