Ayoub Parkar 17 Years in Prison Without Furlough and Deprived of Medical Care

Ayoub Parkar, 70-year-old Iranian political prisoner, endures 17 years without furlough in Sheiban Ahvaz Prison. Chronic illnesses worsen amid medical neglect.

Iran Human Rights Society, Saturday, September 20, 2025– Ayoub Parkar nears his eighteenth year behind bars. He turns 70 this year. As a political prisoner, he faces grave threats. Chronic illnesses ravage his body. Harsh conditions in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz push him toward collapse. Authorities deny him medical care. They refuse even one day of furlough. This veteran inmate symbolizes Iran’s brutal repression. Born in 1955, Parkar entered prison on January 4, 2009. Judges handed him a death sentence first. Appeals cut it to 20 years. Charges tied him to the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization. Now, knee damage and varicocele cripple him. Prison staff offer only useless pills. Therefore, his life hangs in peril. Global voices must demand his release.

Ayoub Parkar’s Severe Illnesses and Physical Decline

Political Prisoner Ayoub Parkar

Ayoub Parkar battles intense pain daily. Severe knee wear plagues him. Grade 3 varicocele adds agony. Tortures during interrogations sparked these woes. Over 17 years in prison, they intensify. Informed sources detail the toll. Knee pain cripples his steps. Varicocele complications limit movement sharply. He struggles to walk now. Prison authorities ignore his pleas. They block referrals to specialist hospitals. Staff hand out temporary drugs instead. These fixes fail completely. Therefore, risks mount fast. His advanced age heightens dangers. Experts warn of total incapacity soon. However, officials prioritize punishment over health. This neglect turns prison into a death trap.

17 Years of Imprisonment Without Any Furlough for Ayoub Parkar

Ayoub Parkar marks 17 years in chains. He claims no furlough day. Born in 1955 in Pirluha village near Tabriz, he led a free life once. Security forces arrested him on January 4, 2009. In December 2009, Judge Mohammad Reza Pourabbasi ruled. The Tehran Revolutionary Court issued death. Appeals softened it to 20 years of discretionary jail. Prosecutors accused him of “waging war” via Mujahedin-e Khalq ties. Parkar rejects the verdict outright. He seeks no pardon or early release. He views his sentence as pure injustice. Therefore, he endures silently. Family ties suffer too. No breaks mean endless isolation. Furthermore, his resolve inspires fellow inmates.

Frequent Prison Transfers Disrupt Ayoub Parkar’s Life

Authorities shuffle Ayoub Parkar often. They yank him from Evin in Tehran first. Then, Fajr Prison in Behbahan followed. Karun in Ahvaz came next. Shushtar Detention Center interrupted briefly. Since February 2015, Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz holds him. Each move brings fresh chains. Restrictions tighten every time. Communication with family snaps. Lawyers lose touch too. Guards use transfers as punishment. They sever vital links deliberately. Therefore, Parkar faces deeper loneliness. However, he adapts with quiet strength. These shifts highlight regime tactics. They aim to break spirits through chaos.

Brutal Realities of Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz

Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz earns its dark fame. It ranks among Iran’s worst hells. Overcrowding chokes every ward. Sanitary facilities vanish almost. Food arrives rotten and scarce. Medical services? A cruel joke. Reports paint a deadly picture. Inmates pack into spaces meant for half their number. Diseases spread like wildfire. Elderly prisoners like Parkar suffer most. Guards deny basic needs routinely. Heat waves turn cells into ovens. Water stays filthy and rare. Therefore, survival demands constant fight. Activists call it a slaughterhouse. Parkar’s chronic pains explode here. No specialists ease his torment. Instead, neglect accelerates decline.

Human Rights Breaches in Ayoub Parkar’s Ordeal

Ayoub Parkar’s case screams violations. Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights bans torture. It forbids cruel treatment too. Denying a 70-year-old care equals slow death. Officials commit gradual torture this way. Article 10 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights demands humanity. It protects prisoner dignity. Sheiban’s horrors shatter this right. Harsh holds without meds mock the rule. Article 12 of the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights guarantees health. Everyone deserves top care. Yet, Parkar gets zero referrals. This failure breaks the pact. Nelson Mandela Rules urge quick specialist access. Guards flout them through neglect. Finally, discrimination strikes. Political status strips his rights. No other inmate endures such bias.

Background on Ayoub Parkar as a Political Prisoner

Ayoub Parkar served as a fighter jet pilot. He flew for Iran’s army four years. The Iran-Iraq War tested him fiercely. Post-war, opposition grew. He clashed with Islamic Republic policies. Dismissal followed swiftly. Arrest hit on January 4, 2009. Family links to Mujahedin-e Khalq relatives sealed it. Interrogators unleashed hell. Physical tortures scarred his body. Psychological blows lingered deep. Effects haunt him still. Cellmates adore Parkar. They praise his humility. Human values guide him. Good morals shine through. Guards demand TV remorse shows. He refuses firmly every time. This stance cements his symbol status. Among political prisoners, he stands tall. Therefore, his resistance fuels hope.
