Eight prisoners executed in Gohardasht and Bandar Abbas prisons, the number of executions reached at least 10 people on Wednesday, September 7.
Iranian Human Rights Society, Thursday, September 8, 2022. Human rights organizations announced execution of eight prisoners on Wednesday, September 7, in Gohardasht (Rajai Shahr Karaj) and Bandar Abbas prisons.
Seven of these prisoners executed on charges of murder in Gohardasht prison and one person (a citizen of Afghanistan) executed on charges of drug possession in Bandar Abbas prison.
Execution of seven prisoners in Gohardasht Prison (Rajaei Shahr)
At dawn on Wednesday, September 7, the death sentence of seven prisoners accused of murder carried out in Gohardasht Karaj Prison.
So far, names of three executed persons announced by human rights organizations: Abolfazl Shahi, from Hall 2 Section 1, Mohammad Arabi and Khosro Noorbakhsh.
The identity of other executed persons is still unknown.
Execution of an Afghan prisoner in Bandar Abbas
At dawn on Wednesday, September 7, the death sentence of an Afghan prisoner named Yar Mohammad Ishaq Zahi executed in Bandar Abbas prison on drug charges.
Yar Mohammad Ishaq Zahi 40 years old, married and has a child, and from Afghanistan. In 2020, he arrested on drug charges and sentenced to death by Bandar Abbas Revolutionary court headed by Judge Alireza Ahmadi Manesh.
According to HAALVASH report, While the body of this prisoner was in Bandar Abbas forensic medicine, his family had no knowledge of his execution.
It is worth noting that on Wednesday, September 7th. The death sentence of two other prisoners carried out, and as a result, at least 10 prisoners executed in just one day.
With the execution of these eight prisoners, number of executions reached at least 435 people since beginning of this year 2022.
Iran’s human rights community demands an immediate halt to the execution of death sentences. We ask the United Nations and the Human Rights Council to take immediate action to stop executions in Iran.
