The prisons organization is carrying out the mass transfer of Gohardasht prisoners to Ghezel Hesar prison in media silence
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, according to an informed source, the Prisons Organization is trying to transfer all Gohardasht prisoners to Ghezel Hesar prison today and tomorrow, the first and second days of August 2023. This is while these two days declared official holidays and the reason has given as the heat.
Currently, the security forces are on full alert and are under control from Gohardasht Prison (Rajai Shahr Karaj) to Ghezel Hesar Prison. Now, some wards, each of which contains three halls, evacuated, and the rest of the wards will evacuated by tomorrow, and the prisoners will transferred to Ghezel Hesar prison.
In April 2023, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejjei, the head of the Judiciary ordered the closure of Gohardasht prison and the transfer of prisoners to other prisons. This transfer done under the pretext of Gohardasht prison being located in Karaj city. While Evin prison is also located in Tehran.
Transferring prisoners from Gohardasht to destroy the traces of 1988 massacre
Some believe that this relocation designed to destroy the traces of the 1988 massacre, in which 30,000 political prisoners massacred in Iranian prisons.
The name of Gohardasht prison (Rajai Shahr) mentioned in the court and Nouri case as the place of killing of thousands of political prisoners in August and September 1988, in which many government officials, including Ebrahimi Raisi, involved in issuing death sentences and executioners.
Some unconfirmed news also indicate that the reason for this relocation is the bankruptcy of the prisons organization and the dire need of money for this system. For this reason, the land of Gohardasht sold for 400 billion tomans, and from the beginning, a percentage of this money was embezzled in the gang disputes of prison officials.
On the other hand, the prisoners of Gohardasht prison consider this transfer as a factor of increasing pressure on them. According to a source close to the prisoners: “Ghezel Hesar prison lacks minimum standards and does not even have windows or ventilation. On the other hand, the transfer of prisoners without distinguishing crimes will cause deadly conflicts and murder of prisoners. Until now, prisoners were separated based on city and language. In case of transfer, expect bloody murders. “We have no security.”
