Injury of political prisoner Mohammad Ashtiani after beating in Karaj Central Prison. He suffered an injury in his hand and his condition worsened
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Sunday, February 26, 2023. The political prisoner Mohammad Ashtiani beaten by the officers of Karaj Central Prison. Who are among prisoners hired by head of prison. This happened only because Muhammad talked to another prisoner and caused him to beaten and injured his hand.
This attack and beating took place in front of prison authorities and they did not take any action to prevent this brutality.
After this beating, prison authorities summoned political prisoner Mohammad Ashtiani and warned him to remain silent about this beating and that this news should not leake to media.
They threatened him that if news is published in media, they transfer him to worse places.
As a result of this brutal beating, Mr. Ashtiani’s hand severely injured. And he suffered shortness of breath and his internal problems worsened.
It is reminded that in Karaj Central Prison, principle of segregation of crimes is not respected . And political prisoners kept next to social crime prisoners and lives and health of these political prisoners are in danger in this prison.
In Karaj Central Prison (Karaj Penitentiary), the prison authorities use violent crime prisoners in their gangs. And use them to advance their goals in the prison. Earlier, in a report from this prison, it stated that prisoners of Karaj Central Prison are beaten by order of prison officials and by prison’s lawyers and regulations, while in many cases prisoner is unaware of reason for beating.

The hired person who beat this political prisoner is Hamid Khalaj and he is a resident of Dehghan Villa Karaj.
Political prisoner Mohammad Ashtiani, 59 years old, married and has two children, is a former political prisoner. Mohammad Ashtiani arrested in February 2018 in Tehran and transferred to Intelligence Department and subjected to interrogation and torture. He then transferred to Karaj Central Prison (Karaj Penitentiary).
Political prisoner Mohammad Ashtiani is suffering from asthma and heart disease. During his years in prison, he transferred from one hall to another many times and placed in difficult conditions. In August 2022, after transferring from one hall to another, he subjected to white torture at age 58. And due to the deprivation of a bed, medicine and necessary equipment.
He also deprived of medical treatment when he infected with the corona virus and in a condition close to death.
The Iranian Human Rights Society warns that the responsibility for protecting the life of political prisoner Mohammad Ashtiani lies with prison’s organization and the head of Karaj Central Prison (Karaj Penitentiary) and any transfer and harsh measures against him will be public.
