According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Monday , October 9th, 2023. A Baloch prisoner lost his life due to medical neglect. The prisoner’s name was Mohammad Hussein Notizahi, a 35-year-old man from Cheshmeh Ziarat, a village near Zahedan.
He was married and had four children. Mohammad Hussein Notizahi suffered a heart attack in the public ward of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad. Due to medical neglect and not transferred to the hospital in time, he passed away. Vakilabad Prison is the main prison in Mashhad and although it holds a large number of prisoners, it lacks even the most basic medical facilities.
Lack of basic medical facilities led to the death of Baloch prisoner Mohammad Hassan Noutizahi due to a heart attack in this prison. Due to the lack of medical staff and facilities, especially for dealing with a heart attack.
He should quickly transferred to a hospital outside the prison, but due to the officials’ negligence, he lost his life. Less than two years ago, Mohammad Hassan Noutizahi arrested on charges related to drugs. And sentenced to death with one degree of reduction by the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad.
Medical care for prisoners is the least duty of government officials towards prisoners. Due to the lack of medical care, the statistics of prisoners who die in prison are increasing.
The statistics of Baloch prisoners are much higher than other provinces.
According to statistics published in 2022, Sistan and Baluchestan province had the highest execution rate per million people with 39 executions. The statistics show that at least 174 Baloch prisoners executed in just 2022, which accounts for 30% of all executions in Iran. This is while the population of Sistan and Baluchestan province is less than 4% of Iran’s population.
