Sunni prisoner Farhad Shakeri is denied visits and phone calls due to his hunger strike

According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Monday, February 12, 2024, Farhad Shakeri, a Sunni political prisoner of conscience, is in serious danger in Mashhad’s Vakil Abad prison.

An informed source about Farhad Shakeri’s condition says: “His physical condition is deteriorating. He speaks with difficulty and his legs are numb and he can get up with the help of his friends. His heart hurts a lot and his eyes often turn black. He is not even able to speak and speaks with difficulty.”

According to this report, this political prisoner is still on hunger strike. Because of this, he deprived of meeting and even making phone calls with his family. And also cannot make phone calls with his family.

Farhad Shakeri weight has dropped below 50 kilograms

Farhad Shakeri is currently unable to speak, and his weight has dropped below 50 kilograms. Due to a prolonged hunger strike, many of his bodily functions have deteriorated, and the likelihood of his death is very high.

He is on a hunger strike for 5 months in protest against the issuance of his death sentence. According to reports, his physical condition is critical. In a deliberate act of negligence, prison authorities recently transferred him from Band 6 of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad to a detention center.

When they couldn’t persuade Farhad Shakeri to end his hunger strike, they sent him back to the cell and stated that the responsibility for his death lies with himself and his friends.

Farhad Shakeri, along with 4 other Sunni prisoners, arrested in 2015. In 2019, they sentenced to death by Judge Davoodabadi in the first branch of the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad, on charges of “Moharebeh” through “membership in the Salafi group of Hizb al-Furghan and membership in the National Solidarity Front of Iranian Sunnis”.

This sentence was once overturned by the Supreme Court and referred to the 4th branch of the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad. This court has once again sentenced these prisoners to death.

Farhad Shakeri, a 41-year-old Sunni prisoner from Gonbad Kavous, engaged in beekeeping before his arrest. He and the other Sunni prisoners currently held in Ward 6/1 of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad.
