Arrest and Torture of Saman Mirdoraghi
On Monday, June 2, 2025, around midnight, Saman Mirdoraghi, a young shopkeeper and athlete from Andimeshk, was violently arrested by heavily repressive intelligence forces. Security forces, mobilizing numerous special unit vehicles, stormed his shop, detained him with excessive force, and transferred him to the Andimeshk Intelligence Agency’s detention center. From the moment of his arrest, Saman was subjected to severe pressure and torture to extract a confession for the alleged charges against him.

Death Under Torture
According to reliable information received by the Iran Human Rights Society, Saman Mirdoraghi died on the night of Sunday, June 8, 2025, in the Andimeshk Intelligence Agency’s detention center due to severe torture. He had been detained on accusations of an armed attack on the home of Mehran Amirpour, the commander of the Hosseiniyeh police station in Andimeshk, where 16 Kalashnikov bullets were allegedly fired. Saman was subjected to intense torture without access to a fair judicial process, leading to his death.
Fabricated Charges
Evidence and accounts from Saman’s close associates indicate he had no personal disputes or history of conflict with Mehran Amirpour. Local sources emphasize that the accusations against him were made without credible evidence and were based solely on suspicion. Reports suggest that Saman was tortured to extract a forced confession, with the torture allegedly carried out directly by Mehran Amirpour, the complainant, and other intelligence agency personnel. Additionally, Andimeshk’s prosecutor, named Sepahvand, is said to have fully supported the arrest, torture, and fabricated confession process, restricting the family’s access to a lawyer, visitation, and legal recourse.
Family Kept in the Dark
Throughout Saman’s detention, his family was left in complete uncertainty. Security authorities provided no information about his condition and imposed judicial barriers, preventing the family from pursuing legal action or even tracking his phone. This blatant violation of Saman’s and his family’s human rights occurred despite international laws guaranteeing detainees’ rights to legal counsel, family notification, and fair trial.
Suspicious Death and Public Outrage
The announcement of Saman Mirdoraghi’s death on June 8, 2025, sparked widespread anger and grief among Andimeshk’s residents. The severity of the torture and injuries inflicted on him is reported to have caused his death. As a well-known judoka, bodybuilder, and athlete, Saman’s death has been perceived as a tragic and unacceptable loss, fueling public outrage. Local sources report that Mehran Amirpour’s family has been relocated to an undisclosed location due to fear of public backlash.
Saman Mirdoraghi: A Beloved Figure
Saman Mirdoraghi was described as an energetic, kind, and socially active young man, widely respected for his involvement in sports. Friends and acquaintances note that he was always friendly, with no history of violence or conflict. His reputation as a professional athlete and his positive demeanor have made his death a profound tragedy for the Andimeshk community.
Gross Human Rights Violations
This case highlights the systematic use of fabricated charges, torture, and denial of basic human rights by Iran’s security apparatus, pushing defenseless youth toward death. Amid growing protests against executions and torture in Iran, such incidents further erode public trust and intensify social anger. The following human rights violations are evident in Saman Mirdoraghi’s case, based on international standards:
Prohibition of Torture (Article 5, Universal Declaration of Human Rights; Convention Against Torture): Torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment are absolutely prohibited. Saman was subjected to fatal physical torture, a clear violation of this principle.
Right to Fair Trial (Article 10, Universal Declaration of Human Rights): Every individual is entitled to a fair hearing by an independent and impartial court. Saman was denied access to a lawyer, the ability to defend himself, and was interrogated in a purely security-driven environment.
Right to Family Notification (Article 9, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights): Detainees must be promptly introduced to their families and informed of their rights. The lack of communication with Saman’s family and barriers to legal pursuit violate this right.
Freedom from Arbitrary Detention (Article 9, Universal Declaration of Human Rights): Saman’s arrest, based solely on suspicion without credible evidence, constitutes arbitrary and unlawful detention.
Right to Life (Article 3, Universal Declaration of Human Rights): Every person has the right to life, and depriving Saman of this right through torture and unlawful detention is an indefensible crime.
These violations underscore the repressive nature of the ruling system and its disregard for international commitments. Saman’s family and the public now demand accountability and justice for those responsible for this crime.
