Somayeh Rashidi: Prison Neglect and the Tragic Death of a Political Prisoner

Somayeh Rashidi died from denied medical care in Qarchak Prison. This political prisoner's story exposes systemic neglect and calls for justice.

Somayeh Rashidi Faces Cruel Prison Neglect

Somayeh Rashidi died from denied medical care in Qarchak Prison. This political prisoner’s story exposes systemic neglect and calls for justice.

Somayeh Rashidi suffered greatly in Qarchak Prison. She repeatedly complained about severe headaches and illness symptoms from the start of her detention. However, prison doctors dismissed her pleas. This neglect turned her epilepsy into a fatal trap.

Deep in Qarchak Prison’s dark nights, cold walls muffled cries of pain. Somayeh Rashidi, a 42-year-old woman full of hope for justice, took her last breaths there. She committed her only crime by writing slogans against oppression. Before prison, epilepsy challenged her. Yet in captivity, it became a tool for her destruction. Authorities knew her condition but ignored it.

Somayeh Rashidi’s death marks no accident. Instead, it reveals a quiet, systematic murder backed by the state. Prison authorities and the judiciary deliberately neglected political prisoners, especially women. Somayeh symbolizes thousands crushed by lawlessness in Iran today. Human lives cost less than bureaucratic paper there. Her treatment pleas echoed through corridors, but silence answered them.

Somayeh Rashidi now rests in peace, yet her loss scars society. Witnesses to these crimes feel the wound. Its pain highlights a deeper tragedy: a dictatorial regime mocks human rights. Therefore, her story demands global outrage.

Somayeh Rashidi’s Death: A Pattern of Neglect

This tragedy forms no exception. It fits a recurring pattern where authorities endanger political prisoners, particularly women, with death risks. The judiciary’s statement labels Somayeh Rashidi a “defendant linked to Mujahedin-e Khalq” and stresses her addiction and seizures. However, it twists facts to justify neglect.

Human rights activists counter this narrative strongly. They report months of treatment denial for Somayeh Rashidi. She begged for hospital transfer repeatedly, but negligence blocked her. This led to a 10-day coma and her death on September 25, 2025, at Mofatteh Hospital in Varamin. Furthermore, officials pressured her family to blame a “hospital error.”

This system prioritizes image over life. It treats prisoners as threats, not humans. Somayeh Rashidi needed nerve medication before prison. Captivity stripped it away, so her seizures worsened. Prison staff ignored the escalation until death claimed her. These acts stem from no mistake. They form a “silent execution” strategy. Death hides in treatment denial, sparing the noose.

Somayeh Rashidi’s Death After 10 Days in Coma

Somayeh Rashidi entered a coma on September 15, 2025, after severe seizures. Prison staff delayed her transfer. Only on September 16 did they rush her to Mofatteh Hospital. Doctors called her condition critical. Despite this, she lingered 10 days before passing.

Echoes of Past Atrocities

Compare Somayeh Rashidi’s case to earlier horrors. It exposes the crisis’s depth. Mahsa Amini’s death in 2022 sparked nationwide uprisings. Her story fueled global cries for justice. Similarly, Zahra Kazemi’s killing severed ties with Canada. These incidents mirror Somayeh’s fate. Therefore, the world must act now. Demand accountability for Qarchak’s victims. Stand against this regime’s cruelty.
