The raid by security forces on the home of Noushin Mahmoudi, the mother of Alireza Anjavi, one of the martyrs of the path of freedom in the November 2019 protests, has once again revealed the policy of pressure and intimidation against grieving families; a policy that continues with summons, interrogation, restrictions on movement, and threats against the families of the martyrs of the path of freedom.
Iran Human Rights Society, Sunday June 7, 2026 – Pressure on the families of the martyrs of the path of freedom continues. Based on received reports, security forces on May 3, 2026 by raiding the home of Noushin Mahmoudi, the mother of Alireza Anjavi, one of the martyrs of the path of freedom in the November 2019 protests, searched the home and confiscated her personal belongings. This action takes place while in recent years grieving families due to pursuing the truth, holding memorial ceremonies, and demanding justice have repeatedly been targeted by threats, summons, arrests, and security pressures.
Why Has Noushin Mahmoudi Become the Target of Security Pressures?
Based on published information, about 10 security agents in the afternoon of May 3, 2026 by attending the home of Noushin Mahmoudi in Shiraz searched her home. During this operation, two mobile phones and one color printer were confiscated and taken away.
After this raid, Noushin Mahmoudi was informed that to receive the confiscated items she must refer to a place known as “Plaque 100” on May 6, 2026. But according to informed sources, after her presence in this place, they confined her in a room and interrogated her.
Reports indicate that several male interrogators without introducing their identity or providing any legal documents interrogated her about her possible connection with the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization. Also, she was informed that until the issuance of a summons and determining the status of the case, she will not have the right to leave Shiraz and exit the country.
How Did Alireza Anjavi Lose His Life?
Noushin Mahmoudi is the mother of Seyyed Alireza Anjavi; a young man who in the course of the November 2019 protests in Sadra city of Shiraz lost his life due to a bullet hitting his forehead.
Alireza Anjavi born on January 31, 1993 and was the only child of the family. He was a graduate of architecture and was engaged in professional activity in the field of design and consulting of university projects.
Based on his mother’s account, on November 16, 2019 Alireza after finishing work intended to return home but got caught in the protests. His family was unaware of his fate for days and in repeated referrals to various centers only received contradictory answers.
Noushin Mahmoudi in her account has said that after a week of no news, she was contacted through her son’s mobile phone and when she referred to take delivery of her son, she faced his lifeless body. According to her, the bullet had directly hit her son’s forehead.
What Goal Does the Suppression of Grieving Families Pursue?
Pressure on Noushin Mahmoudi cannot be considered an isolated event. In the past years, dozens of families of the martyrs of the path of freedom in the November 2019 protests, the 2022 protests, and other nationwide protests have faced summons, interrogation, threats, arrests, and various restrictions.
Human rights activists believe that the main goal of these pressures is to prevent the continuation of seeking justice and to silence the voice of families who still demand the clarification of the truth about how their children were killed.
Many grieving families in recent years have reported that even for holding anniversary ceremonies, visiting the graves of their loved ones, or publishing content on social networks, they have faced threats and pressures from security institutions.
In the opinion of observers, the regime tries to prevent the formation of justice-seeking networks by creating an atmosphere of intimidation; because the families of the martyrs of the path of freedom have become one of the most important voices demanding justice in society.
Reports of Threats to Other Families of Martyrs of the Path of Freedom
Simultaneous with Noushin Mahmoudi’s case, other reports have also been published about security agents visiting the homes of families of the martyrs of the path of freedom.
Based on these reports, a number of families in various cities have faced threats, summons, and security warnings. Human rights sources say these pressures usually intensify on the eve of the anniversary of protests, memorial occasions, or simultaneously with the increase in social discontent.
Human rights activists emphasize that families of victims must enjoy the right to seek justice, freedom of expression, freedom of movement, and personal security and should not be pressured because of pursuing the fate of their loved ones.
Suppression of Justice-Seekers; An Attempt to Silence Collective Memory
Human rights experts believe that pressure on the families of the martyrs of the path of freedom is not only directed at specific individuals, but is part of a broad policy to control the narrative of the protests and prevent the collective memory of society from remaining alive.
Grieving families in recent years despite extensive pressures have played an important role in documenting cases of human rights violations, informing about the martyrs of the path of freedom, and pursuing justice. For this reason, their suppression is recognized as one of the continuous dimensions of the security policy against protesters and victims’ families.
Human Rights Violations; Punishment of Families Because of Seeking Justice
Pressure on Noushin Mahmoudi and other families of the martyrs of the path of freedom in the protests is an example of dealing with individuals who only demand the clarification of the truth and achieving justice. Summons, interrogation, threats, movement restrictions, and confiscation of personal belongings of grieving families indicate the continuation of the suppression policy against those who use the fundamental right to seek justice.
