At least 9 prisoners have been killed, and many others injured during the suppression in Dieselabad Prison, Kermanshah. The identities and exact conditions of the injured remain undisclosed, leaving prisoners’ families in complete uncertainty about their loved ones’ fates.
Iran Human Rights Society, Wednesday, 28 Khordad 1404 (June 18, 2025) – Credible and alarming reports from inside Dieselabad Prison in Kermanshah indicate a critical situation and unusual measures that have heightened serious concerns about the fate of the prisoners. According to informed sources, all doors of the prison’s ten wards have been welded shut, and administrative staff and internal prison guards have been completely evacuated.
Concerns Over Widespread Violations of Prisoners’ Rights
A reliable source inside Dieselabad Prison specifically told our reporter:
“All the doors have been welded shut. No staff or guards remain inside. Only a few armed guards are present in the central security section of the prison. The situation is highly suspicious, as if something terrible is about to happen…”
This illegal and suspicious action has taken place despite well-established human rights principles and international laws, which mandate that prisoners, even in emergencies, must have access to basic rights, including medical services, family visits, and oversight by independent institutions.
Currently, no official statements from Dieselabad Prison authorities or judicial officials have been issued regarding these actions or the critical situation inside the prison. This silence has intensified fears of a potential catastrophe similar to previous bloody suppressions in Iranian prisons.
Outbreak of Riot and Bloody Suppression in Dieselabad Prison
According to received reports, on Monday, 26 Khordad 1404 (June 16, 2025), coinciding with a missile attack on a military ammunition depot near Dieselabad Prison in Kermanshah, the situation inside the prison became highly volatile. Families of prisoners and informed sources reported a widespread riot and the reckless use of firearms by prison guards.
Following several massive explosions near the prison, the intense sound of the blasts caused panic among the prisoners, prompting some to attempt to leave their wards or seek safer areas within the facility. In response, prison guards swiftly intervened, opening fire directly on the prisoners, resulting in a bloody tragedy.
According to credible information, at least 9 prisoners were killed during this suppression, and many others were injured. The identities and exact conditions of the injured have not been disclosed, and prisoners’ families remain in complete uncertainty about their loved ones’ fates.
Complete Communication Blackout and Fears of Silent Atrocities
Reports indicate that following the incident, all prisoner communications from Dieselabad Prison with their families have been suspended, and no contact from inside the prison to the outside world is possible. Human rights activists warn that this situation could indicate a complete cutoff of oversight, creating conditions for repressive actions and severe human rights violations.
Human rights activists have repeatedly cautioned that in such circumstances, Iranian security authorities and prison officials may, in the absence of international oversight and media coverage, resort to suppression or even the killing of prisoners.
Widespread Arrests in Recent Days
Concurrently with these developments, widespread arrests have significantly increased across various Iranian cities amid recent tensions. Particularly following Israel’s attack on Iranian military sites and the prevailing security atmosphere, numerous reports have emerged of summons and arrests of civil activists, social media users, journalists, and even family members of political activists in exile.
The expansion of these arrests, coupled with severe restrictions in prisons, further highlights the systematic violation of human rights in Iran.
Notable Human Rights Violations in Dieselabad Prison:
Violation of Article 9, Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Prisoners have been subjected to security crackdowns and suppression without stated reasons or adherence to fair trial principles.
Violation of Article 5, Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Direct shooting at prisoners constitutes a clear example of torture and inhuman, degrading treatment.
Violation of Article 10, Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Denying prisoners access to fair trial processes and cutting off contact with families violates fundamental principles of justice.
Violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights: Mass and arbitrary detentions and preventing prisoners’ access to independent legal counsel are clear violations of Iran’s human rights obligations.
