Rezgar Bigzadeh Babamiri faces execution for aiding protesters. His daughter pleads: “My father is innocent.” Learn about his case and human rights violations.
Iran Human Rights Society, Saturday, July 5, 2025- Rezgar Bigzadeh Babamiri, a political prisoner in Iran, faces an unjust death sentence for aiding injured protesters during the 2022 nationwide protests. His daughter, Zhino, has issued a heartfelt plea on social media, urging the world not to stay silent. This article explores Rezgar’s case, the fabricated charges against him, and the human rights violations he endures in Urmia Prison. Discover the truth behind his detention and why his story matters.
The Plight of Political Prisoner Rezgar Bigzadeh Babamiri

Rezgar Bigzadeh Babamiri, a family man from Bukan, has been detained in Urmia Prison for over 27 months. His only “crime”? Providing medical assistance to injured protesters during Iran’s 2022 protests and owning a Starlink device for personal use. However, the Islamic Republic has escalated his charges, now accusing him of conspiring to assassinate Khamenei—a baseless claim, as Rezgar has not left prison. His case highlights the regime’s efforts to silence dissent through fabricated accusations.
A Daughter’s Cry: “My Father Is Innocent”
Zhino Bigzadeh Babamiri, Rezgar’s daughter, shared a powerful video on X, pleading for her father’s life. She stated, “My father helped injured protesters after Mahsa Amini’s killing. Now, they’ve added a false charge of plotting to kill the leader.” Zhino’s emotional appeal emphasizes that these accusations aim to suppress the people’s voice. She begs the world to share her video and speak out, declaring, “I will stand by my father until the end.”
Unsubstantiated Charges Against Rezgar

The Revolutionary Court has leveled multiple charges against Rezgar, including:
– Enmity against God (moharebeh)
– Rebellion (baghi)
– Collusion against national security
– Propaganda against the state
– Espionage
– Membership in illegal groups
– Possession of weapons
– Financing terrorism
– Use of unauthorized communication equipment (Starlink)
His lawyer confirms these charges lack credible evidence. Furthermore, the addition of a conspiracy charge against Khamenei defies logic, as Rezgar has been imprisoned throughout his detention.
Torture and Intimidation in Detention
In a letter from prison, Rezgar detailed the brutal torture he endured. On April 17, 2023, intelligence agents summoned him to a location in Bukan. There, six interrogators, including aliases Saeedi and Qorbani, subjected him to beatings and electric shocks over three nights. They threatened to kill him and dump his body in Bukan Dam lake. Rezgar wrote, “Their goal was forced confessions, but I had no crime to confess.” His account exposes the regime’s cruel tactics to silence dissent.
Human Rights Violations in Rezgar’s Case
Rezgar’s case violates several international human rights standards:
– Right to Life (Article 3, Universal Declaration of Human Rights): His death sentence lacks a fair trial.
– Prohibition of Torture (Article 5, UDHR; Article 7, ICCPR): Beatings, electric shocks, and death threats are documented.
– Prohibition of Arbitrary Detention (Article 9, UDHR; Article 9, ICCPR): He was detained without a warrant or access to a lawyer.
– Right to a Fair Trial (Article 10, UDHR; Article 14, ICCPR): Non-public trials and denial of legal defense violate fairness.
– Freedom of Expression (Article 19, UDHR; Article 19, ICCPR): Punishing aid to protesters and Starlink use stifles free speech.
– Equality Before the Law (Article 26, UDHR): Political motives drive his unjust sentencing.
These violations demand global attention to Rezgar’s plight.
Why Rezgar’s Story Matters
Rezgar Bigzadeh Babamiri’s case is not just about one man—it reflects a broader pattern of oppression in Iran. The regime uses fabricated charges and torture to silence those who support justice and freedom. Zhino’s plea on X amplifies her father’s innocence and calls for action. By sharing his story, we can pressure authorities to reconsider his sentence and uphold human rights.
