Three political prisoners from one family face “rebellion” charges in Rasht’s Lakan Prison without lawyers, transparency, or fair trial rights.
Iran Human Rights Society, Saturday, December 29, 2025 – Three political prisoners from the same family remain in legal limbo inside Rasht’s Lakan Prison. Authorities charge Adel Lotfipour, Javad Lotfipour, and Qasem Ahmadi with “rebellion.” Yet they block every basic right. The men cannot hire independent lawyers. They receive no case details. Families wait in fear.

Family Ties Deepen the Crisis
Adel (born 1992) and Javad (born 1994) are cousins. Qasem Ahmadi (born 1995) is Adel’s uncle. Security forces arrested all three at the same time. This pattern alarms human-rights defenders. Iran often detains entire families to silence activists. Relatives face collective punishment and intimidation.
No Lawyer, No Information, No Visits
Since the day of arrest, prison officials deny the three men access to independent lawyers. They refuse to share case files or interrogation records. Families submit request after request. Authorities ignore them. Limited visits add more pain. Adel’s seven-year-old child and his wife suffer daily from the uncertainty.
“Rebellion” Charge Without Evidence
Sources confirm no evidence supports the “rebellion” accusation. The process looks purely political, not legal. Judges give no timeline for a hearing. They offer no documents. The men stay in detention with no clear end.
Health and Safety at Risk
Prolonged uncertainty harms mental and physical health. Isolation, pressure, and fear grow stronger each day. Families warn that any harm to the prisoners rests fully on prison and judicial officials.
Families Demand Justice Now
The three families urge authorities to act fast. They demand either immediate release or a transparent, independent trial. They insist the current detention breaks every legal and moral rule.
Clear Violations of International Law
This case breaks multiple global standards that Iran has signed.
- Right to a Fair Trial (Article 14 ICCPR) No lawyer, no case details, no defense – a direct breach.
- Protection from Arbitrary Detention (Article 9 ICCPR) No formal charges, no reasons given, no time limit – classic arbitrary arrest.
- Protection of Family Life (Article 17 ICCPR) Arresting cousins and uncle together terrorizes the whole family.
- Right to Family Contact (Nelson Mandela Rules 58 & 61) Severe visit restrictions violate the prisoners’ right to stay connected with loved ones.
