Prisoners in 50 Iranian prisons join the 83rd week of the Tuesdays Against Execution campaign, staging hunger strikes to protest widespread executions.
Iran Human Rights Society, Tuesday, August 25, 2025 –On August 26, 2025, the Tuesdays Against Execution campaign marked its 83rd week with prisoners in 50 Iranian prisons staging hunger strikes to protest the regime’s rampant executions. This movement, a powerful stand against capital punishment, gained momentum with Dehdasht Prison joining the cause, highlighting the pervasive threat of executions across Iran. The campaign boldly declares that executions violate the fundamental right to life and serve as tools of fear and political repression.
Dehdasht Prison Joins the Fight Against Executions
The Tuesdays Against Execution campaign expanded to 50 prisons this week, with Dehdasht Prison’s participation signaling the growing resistance. In August 2025 alone, 166 individuals faced execution, including 31 in the past week, one of whom was a woman. Disturbingly, two public hangings occurred in Kordkuy and Beyram, Larestan, underscoring the regime’s intent to normalize violence and instill fear. These acts aim to suppress dissent, but the campaign’s persistence shows unwavering defiance.
Prisoners in Dehdasht Prison joined the hunger strike, reinforcing that no region in Iran escapes the shadow of the execution machine. This expansion reflects the campaign’s growing reach and the collective resolve to challenge the regime’s brutal tactics.
Condemning the Erasure of History at Behesht-e Zahra

The campaign also condemns the regime’s conversion of Plot 41 in Behesht-e Zahra Cemetery into a parking lot. This site holds the mass graves of thousands of political prisoners executed in the 1980s, a painful reminder of past atrocities. Turning it into a parking lot insults victims’ families and erases collective memory, an act Amnesty International has strongly criticized. The Tuesdays Against Execution movement calls this a shameful attempt to whitewash the regime’s crimes.
A Call to End Executions and Uphold Human Rights
The Tuesdays Against Execution campaign firmly states: executions are not solutions. They violate the right to life and fuel political oppression. Prisoners urge international organizations, human rights activists, and global citizens to amplify Iran’s cry against executions. By uniting, the campaign believes the cycle of death can end.
This week, hunger strikes occurred in 50 prisons. The campaign’s statement emphasizes solidarity and urges families of death-row prisoners to publicize their cases, amplifying the call for justice.
Why the Tuesdays Against Execution Campaign Matters
The Tuesdays Against Execution campaign, now in its 83rd week, symbolizes resilience. Despite repression, prisoners across 50 facilities stand united, demanding an end to capital punishment. The regime’s execution spree—166 in one month—highlights the urgency of their cause. Public hangings and the destruction of historical sites like Behesht-e Zahra show the regime’s desperation to control through fear. Yet, the campaign’s growth proves that resistance persists.
Join the global call to stop executions in Iran. Support the Tuesdays Against Execution movement by spreading awareness and advocating for human rights. Together, we can break the cycle of violence.
