Open letter of political prisoner Younes Azadbar, after being documented in the IRGC clinic instead of treatment
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, Younes Azadbar, suffering from epilepsy, sent to the IRGC clinic. But instead of treatment, he was filmed and documented by IRGC intelligence agents during the check and examination stages.
Political prisoner Yunus Azadbar interrogated in Lakan prison in Rasht despite his epilepsy. This political prisoner suffers from incurable diseases and cannot bear the conditions of prison and interrogation.
Younes Azadbar is suffering from epilepsy due to the hard blows he received in the prison in the sixties.
On Monday, September 4, 2023, he transferred to Imam Sajjad Clinic, which belongs to the IRGC. A clinic that lacks necessary and sufficient facilities. IRGC intelligence officers filmed his visit and the work steps of the clinic technician for documentation purposes. He also questioned by the doctor about the alleged allegations. This is unusual and contrary to medical practice.
The life and health of this political prisoner is in danger due to his illnesses. He does not have the physical strength to endure further interrogation and detention. The responsibility for his life and health rests with the judiciary and IRGC intelligence.
In a letter from Lakan prison in Rasht, Mr. Yunus Azadbar described his situation and wrote that “I am in danger of being attacked and in fear of death at any moment.”
In part of this letter stated as follows:
“I send greetings to the people of my country
Now, I am locked up in Lakan prison, which lacks specialized facilities for serving patients with epilepsy. The project to remove me, which was initiated by the Ministry of Information in the spring of 2022, started in the summer of 2023 by the IRGC Intelligence Organization with my arrest.
With the repeated requests that I made to the head of the prison, the investigator of the case and the director general of the prisons organization. On Monday, September 4, 2023, I was sent to the Imam Sajjad Clinic (belonging to the IRGC) in Rasht to clear responsibility by IRGC intelligence officers. And the doctor (Dr. Korosh Bahrami) ordered an EEG, while EEG machine did not have the necessary and complete signal.
Technician and interrogator co-operation
In the special room for taking brain scans without my permission, IRGC intelligence agents took photos and videos of the process to document it. And the MRI technician present in the room cooperated fully with the officers and did not object to them.
After seeing the brain tape by Dr. Bahrami, one of IRGC’s intelligence agents called the expert (interrogator) of the case. And he gave the phone to Dr. Bahrami and they exchanged opinions about epilepsy, which I have been suffering from for many years. Then, Dr. Bahrami summoned me again and without the presence of IRGC intelligence officers, they asked me questions about the imputation charge, which was against medical practice.
Since 2010, my convulsions, which are the result of blows to my skull in the bloody 80s, have been prevalent in dictatorial prisons. According to Dr. Abbasion’s diagnosis, a lesion created in the lower part of the cerebellum due to a heavy object. During these years, I have been under the treatment of specialist doctors such as Mrs. Dr. Abbasion and Mr. Dr. Rudbari.
According to the laws. It is clearly emphasized that patients with epilepsy should not be in prison due to their dangerous conditions. Unfortunately, this legal right taken away from me for a long time . And I am in danger of attack and death at any moment. The minimum facilities in Ira n’s prisons are not provided for this. They do not care about their laws or human lives.”
About Younes Azadbar
Younes Azadbar, 60 years old, a resident of Sangar, is one of the political prisoners of the 60s and 70s. On July 19, 2023, he arrested by intelligence agents at his place of residence in Sangar city of Gilan province. After his arrest, he transferred to Mithaq Ward of Lakan Prison in Rasht and interrogated.
On September 31, 2023, Mr. Azadbar accused by the first investigation branch of Sangar’s General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of “Moharebeh”, “propaganda against the regime”. He currently imprisoned in Lakan prison in Rasht.
