Iran Human Rights Center August 21, 2022, Evin Prison officials, with various pretexts and with the aim of psychologically torturing political prisoners Zahra Safaei and her children Parasto and Masoud Moeini, prevented them from meeting inside the prison. And they have made this meeting subject to verification and DNA testing or the civil registry office’s response.
An informed source told the Iranian Human Rights Center: “In the follow-up of Mrs. Safaei’s meeting with her son, they first told her: How do we know that Masoud Moeini is your son?” So. Do a DNA test!!!”While before this, when Mrs. Safai was imprisoned in Qarchak prison, she was once transferred to Evin to meet her son Masoud.
This source continued: “After continuous follow-ups, the prison authorities finally said that they will inquire through the civil registry office, but this family can take a DNA test to prove that they are from the same family by accepting the fee!” But this family is unable to afford such an expense because they are all in prison, and on the other hand, it will take weeks to answer the inquiry from the civil registry.”
This source added: “These harassments have nothing to do with verification, they are looking for the mental torture of this political prisoner’s family; Moreover, the prison officials used an inhuman excuse to demand to see the birth certificate of Zahra Safai’s husband in order to make sure that they are from the same family.
“Also, when Mrs. Safai and her daughter Parasto were in Qarchak Varamin prison, the prison officials repeatedly prevented this mother and daughter from meeting their son and brother Masoud Moeini in Evin prison with the excuse that it is not possible to meet between two seperate prisons.”
All these tortures are happening while Mrs. Zahra Safai is suffering from various diseases, especially heart disease, and once she had a heart attack in prison. This mental torture can have a serious effect on her health.
The Iranian Human Rights Center has warned against the harassment and mental torture applied to political prisoners and demands an international delegation to visit prisons and especially the conditions of political prisoners.
About political prisoner Zahra Safai
On February 23, 2020, Zahra Safaei and her daughter Parasto Moeini arrested by intelligence and security agents in Tehran and transferred to solitary cells of Ward 209 of Evin Prison.
Zahra Safaei and her daughter Prasto Moeini deported from Evin prison to Qarchak Varamin prison in late March 2020. This political prisoner was released on Sunday, June 27, 2020, with a bail of 300 million tomans until the end of procedure, and arrested again on July 26, 2020, and transferred to Qarchak Varamin prison.
In December 2020, Zahra Safaei trialed by Judge Shahmirzadi in branch 23 of Tehran Revolutionary Court and sentenced to 5 years in prison on charges such as gathering and conspiring against regime, propaganda against regime to 1 year, and insulting Khamenei and Khomeini to 2 years in prison. Zahra Safai has been sentenced to a total of 8 years in prison.
His children Parasto and Mohammad Masoud Moeini were also trialed in the same court, and each was sentenced to 6 years in prison.
Following the warning of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office to enforce and confiscate the bail, the 23-year-old political prisoner Mohammad Masoud Moeini presented himself to Evin Prosecutor’s Office and arrested by prison officials and taken to Evin Prison Quarantine.
Political prisoner Zahra Safai was repeatedly attacked by women hired by Soghari Khodadadi, director of Qarchak prison, and was threatened with death.
On July 20, 2022, Zahra Safaei and Parasto Moeini were transferred from Garchak Varamin prison to Evin prison along with women political prisoners.
