Iran, under the rule of fundamentalist leaders, ranks second in terms of population and first in terms of proportionate number of execution
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on the 23th of September 2023, a prisoner was executed in Minab prison. The prisoner’s identity was announced as Khairallah Jamshidi. The death sentence of this prisoner was carried out in Minab prison. On the same day, another prisoner was also executed in Minab city. Khairallah Jamshidi was charged with armed robbery. He was arrested three years ago on charges of armed robbery and sentenced to death in court.
Execution of 15 people on charges of Moharebeh in the year 2022
It is reported that in the year 2022, at least 15 people have been sentenced to execution on charges of Moharebeh.
The economic policies of the government leaders, which have led to poverty and unemployment for many people, are the main reason for the increase in criminal activities. According to reports published in 2022, at least 617 people have been executed. Of this number, at least 13 women and 6 children have been executed. This figure has increased by at least 80% compared to 2021.
According to resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, the Iranian government has the highest number of executions relative to its population. Most of the trials conducted in Iran are outside the international norms and are unfair.
Abolishing the death penalty in 104 countries
Currently, 104 countries have abolished the death penalty through referendums. 50 countries have abolished methods leading to death, and only 6 countries will have the death penalty during wartime.
Currently, only 34 countries use inhumane execution as a punishment. Iran, under the rule of fundamentalist leaders, ranks second in terms of numbers and first in terms of executions per capita.
Many executions are not reported due to censorship. This censorship is particularly prominent in the execution of women. Since the beginning of September, at least 19 people have been executed in Iranian prisons.
