16-year-old Armita Garavand went into a coma after beaten in Tehran’s metro, according to the Iranian Human Rights Society.
On Sunday, October 1, 2023, Armita Garavand, a 16-year-old student, beaten by officials on the pretext of improper veiling.
The beating took place in Tehran’s metro and led to her coma. She transferred to Fajr Hospital in Tehran’s Air Force area. Armita Garavand has been in a coma ever since and also under strict security measures at Fajr Hospital.
As of 2 pm on Tuesday , October 3, special forces and plainclothes officers stationed at the intersection of Coca-Cola and the street leading to Fajr Hospital, fearing protests. Reports indicate that her parents pressured for an interview. In an interview with IRNA news agency, In an interview, Armita’s mother said that her child had fainted due to low blood pressure, while the tone of her speech showed that she did not have accurate information about her daughter’s condition.
Widespread and arbitrary suppression and arrests, ambiguity in the trial process of political and non-political defendants, and more are among the cases that international human rights organizations have repeatedly referred to as violations of human rights laws by government security forces. These cases strongly condemned in Amnesty International’s report on March 28, 2023.
