According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Monday, October 22, 2023, an inmate named Khusro Naghiani, who charged with drug-related crimes, executed in Karaj Central Prison (Karaj Penitentiary). He had also transferred to solitary confinement a week earlier for the implementation of the death sentence.

On the other hand, on the same day, at least four prisoners from the central prisons of Sanandaj and Shiraz also transferred for execution.
One death row prisoner named Khaled Rouhi transferred from Sanandaj prison to the central prison of Sanandaj for the execution of the death sentence.
Also, three male prisoners in Shiraz central prison transferred to solitary confinement for the execution of their sentences. The charges against these three prisoners are related to drugs.
No information is available about the names and details of these three prisoners.
Iran is a country that uses the tool of execution to suppress its own people. And also has the highest number of executions per capita. The death sentences are issued and executed for crimes that, according to common legal definitions in the world, are not considered as “very serious crimes” and also are the result of unfair and non-compliant trials with international standards.
The high number of executions of prisoners in Iran has received negative reactions globally. Mr. Javaid Rahman condemned the deprivation of citizens’ right to access a lawyer in his periodic report.
