After three months, the identity of an executed prisoner in Ghezelhesar Karaj verified
The identity of a prisoner who executed in Ghezelhesar prison in Karaj in August has revealed after three months.
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, the executed prisoner in Ghezelhesar prison named Sajjad Hashemi, and this confirmed on Friday, October 27th, 2023.
According to a reliable source, Sajjad Hashemi executed on August 6th, 2023, on charges related to drugs in Ghezelhesar prison. Sajjad Hashemi was 38 years old and from Karaj.
According to this source, “Sajad was innocent. During the raid on his house, drugs were found that did not belong to him and were the property of his guests. However, he also accused of involving with these drugs and sentenced to death.”
The death penalty is legal in Iran, and this punishment imposed in Iranian judicial rulings for certain crimes such as political crimes, murder, rape, child sexual abuse, sodomy, drug trafficking, armed robbery, kidnapping, and armed conflict. This is despite the fact that the fairness of trials in Iran has always been questionable.
Abolishing the death penalty in 104 countries
Currently, 104 countries have abolished the death penalty through referendums. 50 countries have abolished methods leading to death, and only 6 countries will have the death penalty during wartime.
Currently, only 34 countries use inhumane execution as a punishment. Iran, under the rule of fundamentalist leaders, ranks second in terms of numbers and first in terms of executions per capita.
Many executions not reported due to censorship. This censorship is particularly prominent in the execution of women. Since the beginning of September, at least 19 people have executed in Iranian prisons.
