Birjand Prison’s execution increased to 5 people, one executed in Rasht’s Central Prison

According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Thursday, October 26th, 2023. With today’s increase in executions in Birjand prison to 5 people, the number of executions reached 15 in four days.
In the early hours of Thursday, October 26th, 2023, the death sentence of 5 prisoners with the names Abdolbasir Riggi. (Mohammadiani), Mohammadnabi Shahouzehi (Lejeai), Mohammad Mirshah, Reza Shahreki and Omid Jooyani carried out in Birjand prison.
According to HaalVash Website on Thursday, October 26th, 2023. one of these prisoners was Mohammadnabi Shahouzehi (Lejeai). He is the uncle of khodaNoor’s Lejaei, one of the martyrs of the nationwide uprising in 2022.
According to this report, every five prisoners related to drug-related suspects and transferred to solitary confinement on Thursday morning, October 25rd, to implement the sentence.
On the other hand, a prisoner named Hamed Heydari also executed on Friday, October 19th, 2023, a week ago on charges of murder in Lakan prison in Rasht. The 24-year-old man had been arrested four years ago on charges of murder and sentenced to death.
The execution of prisoners on drug charges carried out in Iran’s prisons in a situation where the drug cartels run and managed by Revolutionary Guards.
Amnesty International also condemned the increase in the number of executions in Iran. And called for global action to stop such sentences.
Currently, 104 countries have abolished the death penalty through referendums.
