Execution of a Baloch woman prisoner in Kerman Central Prison
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. A Balochi woman named Zarkhatun Mazarezahi, a mother of one child who accused of carrying drugs, executed in Kerman Prison.
She was born in 1977, from Saravan and lived in Khash County, married with one daughter and the head of the family. Her husband passed away some time ago. Zarkhatun Mazarezahi transferred to solitary confinement for execution on Tuesday, November 13, 2023, and had her last visit with her family.
According to Haalvash news, the family of a Baloch prisoner did not have the financial means to travel for a final visit with her before execution. They forced to sell their granddaughter’s earrings in order to pay for the trip.
The woman arrested on drug-related charges at a checkpoint in Kerman province in 2017 and denied the charges. However, in February 2022, the Kerman Revolutionary Court issued a death sentence against her. She did not have the financial means to hire an experienced lawyer or receive legal assistance.
Execution of women in Iranian prisons is taking place while drug cartels are in the hands of the Revolutionary Guards.
Due to widespread poverty and unemployment, many unemployed youth forced to engage in activities such as drug trafficking.
While the commanders of the Revolutionary Guards and government officials play a serious role in controlling international drug cartels, these individuals still arrested. In the past three years, there has been a significant increase in drug-related arrests. In the first six months of 2023, at least 205 people have been executed on charges of drug trafficking.
