The political prisoners of GhezelHesar prison in Karaj are on hunger strike in protest of mass executions
According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, on Monday, January 29, 2024. Political prisoners of Ghezelhesar Karaj prison go on hunger strike every Tuesday. It will be in protest of the mass executions in this prison and also other prisons. This hunger strike is accompanied by the hunger strike of prisoners sentenced to death in this prison.
The political prisoners of GhezelHesar prison in Karaj announced a hunger strike in a statement and wrote:
From the time of our exile until now, we have witnessed the spread of the wave of execution of prisoners, (political and also non-political) and we have also reacted to this crime in every possible way and informed as much as possible.
Beating, threatening and insulting, destroying and also confiscating the equipment of prisoners.
For this reason, on Sunday, January 28, 2024, in order to silence this voice of protest, and prevent the disclosure of the wave of executions, the security forces attacked the prison of political prisoners. While beating, threatening and insulting, destroying and also confiscating the equipment.
All this brutality is to prevent disclosure against the government’s executions and killings.
We were simultaneously witnessing the announcement of a hunger strike by a group of prisoners under the death penalty in GhezelHesar prison. They declared that they will go on a hunger strike every Wednesday to draw public attention to stop the executions.
In response to the continued injustice and the cries of oppression of these prisoners, and in protest against the imminent execution of 4 Kurdish compatriots and other death sentences, we political prisoners in GhezelHesar prison joined the campaign to stop the execution machine. We will also go on a hunger strike on Black Tuesday, along with other prisoners, to stop this killing machine every Tuesday.
