Gohardasht, Sari and Central Karaj prisons, execution of 10 prisoners in 7 days

According to the report of the Iranian Human Rights Society, quoted by the Iranian Human Rights Organization, in Gohardasht, Sari and Central Karaj prisons, within 7 days. At least 10 prisoners were executed on Wednesday December 14, Sunday December 18 and Tuesday December 20, 2022.

On Wednesday, December 14, the death sentence of 5 prisoners was executed in Gohardasht prison. These prisoners, who were all accused of murder, were transferred from Tehran prison to Gohardasht prison to carry out the execution sentence. There is no information about their names and details.

On Sunday, December 18, two prisoners of drug and murder charges were executed in Sari prison. Mohammad Akbari was one of these prisoners who was sentenced to death for murder. The identity of the other prisoner who was sentenced to death on drug-related charges is not known.

Also, on December 20, 2022, 3 prisoners were executed in Karaj Central Prison (Karaj Penitentiary). Mehdi Kamrani Far and another prisoner were sentenced to death on drug charges. The other prisoner was sentenced to death on the charge of murder, whose details and identity are not known.

At least 10 prisoners were executed on Wednesday December 14, Sunday December 18 and Tuesday December 20, 2022.

Increasing the number of executions

After the increase in the wave of executions, in recent days in the central prisons of Karaj and Qaemshahr prisons. The prisoners protested the transfer of their fellow prisoners sentenced to death.

On Saturday, December 27, 2022, the prisoners of the three halls of the central prison of Karaj, after the transfer of several prisoners sentenced to death to carry out the sentence, began to chant slogans of death to Khamenei and death to the dictator. These prisoners faced suppression and firing of war and tear gas bullets. According to reports, a number of prisoners were injured and at least one prisoner was killed.

Including these executions, since the beginning of the current Iranian year 1401, at least 506 people have been executed, and since the beginning of this year 2022, at least 587 people have been executed. This is while many death sentences are carried out secretly and are not published or announced anywhere. Therefore, the actual number of executions is higher than this figure.

We remind you that the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran accused the Iranian government officials of launching a new campaign to execute prisoners.
