Currently, 104 countries have abandoned the death penalty through referendums.
50 countries will abolish methods leading to death, and 6 countries will have the death penalty only in times of war. Currently, only 34 countries use the inhumane death penalty. Under the rule of fundamentalist leaders, Iran has the second rank in terms of number and the first rank in terms of the number of executions in proportion to the population.
Many executions are not published due to news censorship. This censorship is especially prominent in the execution of women. Since the beginning of May, at least 103 prisoners have been executed in Iran’s prisons. Despite the ban on the execution of criminals under the age of 18 in the Declaration of Human Rights, Iran’s ruling leaders continue to execute children who committed crimes between the ages of 14 and 17.
While international conventions such as child rights have set the age of criminal punishment for both sexes at 18 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has set the age of criminal punishment at 15 years for boys and 9 years for girls.
