Reports Indicate Torture, Deprivation of Chosen Lawyer and Lack of Transparency in the Trial of Farzad Moradi
Iran Human Rights Society, Wednesday, April 15, 2026 – Based on received information, Farzad Moradi, one of the detainees from the protests in Izeh, faces the danger of imminent execution of his death sentence. This is while reports indicate a non-transparent process in the trial, deprivation of access to a chosen lawyer and severe pressures during the detention period.
Danger of Execution of the Sentence in Ambiguous Conditions
Informed sources have announced that Farzad Moradi’s family has been informed that his death sentence may be carried out soon. According to these sources, the only factor delaying the execution of the sentence has been the conditions resulting from the war.
Farzad Moradi, a young man from Izeh, is currently being held in the quarantine section of Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz. At the same time, two other defendants in this case are still in security detention centers and no precise information about their situation has been published.

Security Charges and Attribution of Protest Events
The charges raised against Farzad Moradi and other defendants in the case have been titled “forming an armed group” and “enmity against God (muharibah)”. In this case, it has been claimed that he played a role in distributing weapons among members of a group.
Also, security forces have attributed the killing of several government forces during the protests of Dey 1404 (December 2025 – January 2026) in Izeh to these individuals. However, the exact details of the documents presented in court and the manner of proving these charges have not been published transparently.
Reports of Torture and Worrying Physical Condition
Based on previous reports, Farzad Moradi faced severe violence during detention and interrogation. Informed sources have reported the existence of numerous injury marks on his body; including a broken nose, blows to the head and face and signs of internal bleeding.
In one case, he was transferred to Imam Hospital in Ahvaz in Bahman 1404 (January – February 2026) and during a medical operation, several disposable spoons were removed from his stomach. However, his treatment process has not been completed and despite the opposition of the medical staff, he was returned to the detention center again. This issue has increased concerns about his health condition.
Deprivation of Chosen Lawyer and Ambiguity in the Trial Process

One of the most important points raised in this case is the lack of free access of the defendants to a chosen lawyer. Reports indicate that Farzad Moradi and other defendants did not have the possibility of benefiting from an independent and trusted lawyer.
Also, the judicial processing procedure has been accompanied by serious ambiguities. There is no clear information about the exact time of issuance of the court verdict, the manner of reviewing the case in higher stages and even the possible confirmation of the verdict in the Supreme Court. This lack of transparency has added to concerns about the fairness of the trial process.
Continuation of Detention of Co-Defendants in Unknown Conditions
Alongside Farzad Moradi’s situation, two of his co-defendants are still being held in security detention centers. According to informed sources, the situation of these individuals is also unclear and no information has been published about their detention conditions, interrogation process or legal status.
This situation indicates the continuation of ambiguity in the entire case and concern about the fate of other defendants.
Increase in Concerns About Execution of the Sentence
Considering the set of conditions, including reports of torture, lack of access to a chosen lawyer, and lack of transparency in the processing procedure, concerns about the imminent execution of Farzad Moradi’s death sentence have increased.
The family of this prisoner and sources close to the case have demanded clarification of the legal status and stopping the execution of the sentence until a more precise review of the case.
Violation of Human Rights in Farzad Moradi’s Case
Farzad Moradi’s case, from the perspective of observers, is considered an example of existing challenges in the field of human rights; where reports of torture, deprivation of basic defense rights including access to a chosen lawyer, and lack of transparency in the trial process have been raised. These issues, along with the danger of execution of the death sentence, have increased concerns about compliance with standards of fair trial and the rights of the accused.
The situation of Farzad Moradi is an example of the violation of several fundamental principles of human rights:
- Violation of the Prohibition of Torture – Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Reports indicate severe beatings, physical injuries, fractures and physical and psychological pressures during interrogation which constitute inhuman treatment and torture.
- Violation of the Right to Fair Trial – Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Lack of transparency in the trial process, uncertainty of the details of issuing the verdict and lack of notification about the processing stages call into question the principles of fair trial.
- Violation of the Right to Access a Lawyer – Principles of Fair Trial: Deprivation of free access to a chosen lawyer has violated the accused’s right to effective defense and has limited the possibility of a fair trial.
- Violation of Personal Freedom and Security – Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: Holding co-defendants in security detention centers without precise information about their situation is a sign of arbitrary and non-transparent arrests.
- Violation of the Right to Health – Fundamental Principles of Human Rights: Returning the prisoner to the detention center despite his severe physical condition and the incomplete treatment process has seriously endangered his health.
