Death sentence of Majid Reza Rahnavard Payan Deh executed in public in Mashhad. Iranian Human Rights Society; Dawn today, Monday, December 12, 2022
Majidreza Rahnavard was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad, headed by Judge Seyedhadi Mansouri, on the charge of moharebeh. And the verdict was confirmed in the Supreme Court.
Majidreza Rahnavard participated in protests in Mashhad on Thursday, November 17. And on November 19, he was arrested on charges of killing two Basiji members.
The first session of his trial was held on Tuesday, November 29, less than 10 days after his arrest, in the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad, presided over by Seyed Hadi Mansouri. Majidreza was sentenced to death.
This verdict was then confirmed in the Supreme Court, and it was hastily executed in public at dawn today, Monday, December 12.
At the same time, the Iranian Human Rights Society announced in the news: “A camp has been set up in Mashhad to deal with the arrested protesters.” and Mohammad Hossein Daroudi, prosecutor of Mashhad Revolutionary Court. On Thursday, November 24, in the meeting of this camp, referring to the issuance of the indictment, Rahnavard clarified that he was accused of moharebeh.
The prosecutor of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court also emphasized on the speedy issuance of Rahnavard’s death sentence and execution next week.
This sentence was issued and executed while Majidreza did not have access to a designated lawyer. On the other hand, he has been tortured and forced to confess. So, in the videos of his confession, one of his hands was in plaster because of a fracture due to torture.
In the published reports, an informed source is quoted as saying, “Mojidreza was not able to get an appointed lawyer and they had already prepared everything in the court to convict him. They didn’t even give him the right to defend himself.”
Pictures were also published that mercenaries and government agents attacked his house and residence and while breaking the windows, wrote slogans on the walls in order to terrorize the people and his family members.
Mr. Rahnavard is accused of killing Hossein Zeinalzadeh and Daniyal Rezazadeh, two members of the Basiji forces in Mashhad, on Thursday, November 17, during nationwide protests. This accusation has been raised against Majidreza Rahnavard, who is not in any of the published video images. And the identity of the assailant is not clear from the surveillance cameras collected by the security agencies around the place of the incident.
Majidreza Rahnavard was a 23-year-old resident of Mashhad and worked in a fruit shop on Pirizou street in Mashhad until his arrest.
During these protests, more than 520 people, including 65 children, have died and more than 20,000 people (according to government statistics) have been arrested.
