Election circus -The Iranian people’s historical no-to Khamenei’s repressive regime
Today, Friday, July 5, 2024, the second round of the election circus will be held. We at the Iranian Human Rights Society are trying to provide a snapshot of what is happening in Iranian cities. And also in the prisons on Election Day.
This election is a contest over a greater share of the debate over Khamenei’s succession before it is an attempt to win the seat of the government’s president. In the past 40 years, the Iranian people, with their no histories’ answer, had boycotted all the elections of this regime. However, after the 2022 nationwide protests, this boycott has deepened and expanded, which we saw in the boycott of the circus of the first round of the presidential election.

Although Khamenei tried to downplay the boycott of the elections by engineering the elections. And multiplying the number of votes, even in the statistics presented, these elections had the lowest turnout in the past 40 years.
According to reports, prison authorities have tried to force prisoners to participate in the elections through threats and pressure. However, prisoners in various prisons have issued statements emphasizing their boycott of the elections.
On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, political prisoners in various wards of Evin Prison chanted anti-government slogans. And boycotted Khamenei’s sham elections. Political prisoners in the women’s wards and in wards 4, 6, and 8 of Evin Prison chanted anti-government slogans in protest of Khamenei’s sham elections.

The social prisoners in Ghezelhesar Prison, emphasizing the main cause of society’s problems, had announced:
”What should we vote for? Who should we vote for? Should we vote for those who imprison us and persecuted and repressed by them every day? Should we vote for those who take prisoners to death every day? We will never vote for these thieves, murderers, and torturers. And our message to the rest of our brothers and comrades in other prisons is not to go near the ballot box. Whatever the cost, it is no worse than the condition in which we now trapped.”
