According to the Iranian Human Rights Society, many young protesters have been arrested in the western provinces of the country from September 6 to October 16, 2023.

Extensive arrests of protesting youth in western provinces. Government officials have detained at least 17 people in an attempt to prevent protests in the city of Saqqez

After more than 10 days, 12 of them are still in custody. According to the Iranian Human Rights Society. Many young protesters have been arrested in the western provinces of the country from September 6 to September 27, 2023. Many of those detained had also arrested during the nationwide protests in 2020. From September 6 to 16, 2023, more than 15 people detained in Saqqez alone, and some of them are still in prison.

On Tuesday, September 25, 2023, Kavian Kamangar-Nasab arrested by government forces and transferred to an unknown location. The reasons for his arrest and the charges against him are unknown. The Revolutionary Guards raided his home and confiscated his personal belongings including his mobile phone and laptop.

Extensive arrests in Saqqez city

Previously, government officials have detained at least 17 people in an attempt to prevent protests in Saqqez city. Over 10 days have passed and 12 of them are still in detention. The reason for the arrest of these individuals remains unclear, even after more than four weeks of detention.

The names of the detainees are as follows:

Lokman Bidari, Hiwa Tattayi, Omid Moghaddas, Samira Ahmadi, Amin Minaii, Hiro Ghadimi, Shirku Hajazi, Safa A’eli, Mehran Sa’adi, Taher Soltani, Azad Amini, Mahmoud Ghaffari Nejad are some of the detainees who have had heavy bail imposed on them by judicial authorities upon their release.

So far, officials from the Ministry of Intelligence and the Revolutionary Guards have interfered in judicial affairs and prevented the release of other prisoners.

Ahmad Beikas’ house raided by Ministry of Intelligence agents. In the early morning of Saturday, September 16, 2023. Ministry of Intelligence agents raided the home of a Kurdish youth named Ahmad Beikas and arrested him. During the raid on this house, agents broke down the door and windows and caused terror and fear among the residents. Ahmad Beikas is from the village of Bavvan in the suburbs of Urmia. On Saturday, September 16, security forces arrested two young men in the city of Qorveh named Mehdi Feizi and Omid Khosravi. The reason and location of their arrest is unknown.

Widespread and arbitrary suppression and arrests, ambiguity in the trial process of political and non-political defendants, and more are among the cases that international human rights organizations have repeatedly referred to as violations of human rights laws by government security forces. These cases have been strongly condemned in Amnesty International’s report on March 28, 2023.
